Hey guys, just checking Earthquake3D and there seems to be over 200 earthquakes around the California area in the last 10 hours, and a big 7.3 near Mexico. Anybody have news or video? USGS have stopped updating?

Re: Earthquake watch California/Mexico

Thats not uncommon minus the 7.3 part. Its a very active area.

Re: Earthquake watch California/Mexico

Yeah true, been watching earthquakes closely for about 5 years as the university I teach at has seismology programmes, but never seen over 250 in one place over 24hr. Even Japan's earthquake last year didnt generate that many aftershocks over 24hrs.

Re: Earthquake watch California/Mexico

didnt they say california in general is going to fall off into the ocean eventually?

If falls off means becomes an island then yes, part of CA is slowly pulling away from the contintal US and should be an island say million years from now.

I was out of town yesterday but while driving back we drove through el Centro. We stopped at a convenience store and a lot of stuff was on the floor... we didn't know what happened until they told us about the earthquakes they had all day long...
When I got home I thought my collection would be half on the floor, but fortunately nothing fell down...

Wrong. It's suppose to happen in roughly a go-zillion years.

I am a huge fan of many many smaller earthquakes....get all that pressure released. Now a big ass one, not so much!
