Did you cut it yourself?

No just took the measurements and had a glass place make the cuts. I think they charged $15. They were super accurate to 1/16 of an inch.

That's a great idea Samurai, but if I'm not mistaking, the plexiglass at the Home Depot is extruded. I remember one of the posters, gagaliya, said to use cell cast acrylic. I'm concerned that regular plexiglass will bow too much in the sliding door frames or be completely scratched when I buy them. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but want my displays to be the best they can be, you know?

Its been years, havent had any bowing. Acrylic is crystal clear and came with that annoying plastic wrap all over it lol. Havent even had to clean it since I put it up. When its dark and you light it up its like its not even there. If it comes scratched up, its any easy replacement. If you go that route I think you can feel pretty safe.

quick edit- I dont have the super wide, mines the 60 incher

Can anybody give me some advice for a single PAX with a hinged door? I would like to have a frame around the plexiglass instead of the glass by itself. I can’t remember who posted this originally, but there is a website called rockler woodworking that sells aluminum cabinet door frames. Would that be a good option?

Anyone here happen to own the IKEA Galant shelving unit? It looks like it'll fit well into a space I have, but wondered if maybe the Besta or Billy doors fit.

So i absolutely love the PAX sliding door cases everyone has been making, but I'm a bit confused on how to make this work... so you have to buy the sliding doors from IKEA for around 280 and then pop out the glass and switch it out for acrylic?

Also I've already built the PAX wardrobe, is the sliding door addon possible to just purchase and addon on or is it a separate model?

I bought the 39" width 79" height model and am anxious to get a clear glass (or acrylic) door attached (swinging or sliding) and am an extreme novice to the whole process!

Also any suggestions on shelf support and how to do so as I really really dont trust the plastic pegs on these shelving units and have this hardcore fear of the shelf imploding inward, regardless of weight on top or pegs ripping out!

The only reason I found out about all these guides is I bought glass doors at IKEA only to realize they basically make my pieces invisible without lighting, which is bumming me out because I want to be able to see my pieces even with lights off. Also is there anything I can do about that? I bought the black/brown model and it just seems so dark that it drowns any detail in my pieces without lights on and I'd rather be able to enjoy my pieces both lights on and off.

Thanks!!

Hey guys, finally got around to finish this up tonight. Now that it's done, i would recommend single panel pax over my previous setup (unless you just dont like the look), it offers so much more flexibility as you can fully adjust each shelf and it has 90" height! For example set a 45" height for lsf then 15" right above for HT dolls etc.. It is also actually easier to install

For the single panel custom pax my two biggest fears were the acrylic panel wont fit properly, or even if it fits it will sag. We are talking about a 90"x40" acrylic panel, which is gigantic! Luckily everything went perfect and there is no sagging or any kind of issues.

Full spec below for anyone looking to do something similar, i am not going to duplicate details in my previous post such as lighting etc.., please see this link on those items: https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4693173&postcount=9

-------------------------------

How to build your single panel 80"x90" Ikea PAX

NOTE: all measurements here are specific to the 80"x90" pax ONLY, do not copy them if you are choosing a different size. For another size, you will need to buy the sliding doors first, assemble them, then measure precisely to get the dimensions for the acrylic panels.

1) Select the correct PAX base (link: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79894902/#/S49894847).

Use the drop down to select the correct width/height: 78"x25"x93"

Note: Depends on the color, the measurement displayed will vary slightly, i dont know why ikea does that but it's fine as they all use the same sliding doors.

2) Order your custom display panels. (link: https://www.professionalplastics.com/PLEXIGLASS-ACRYLICSHEET-CAST?&search_id=1013418 )

- This step is CRITICAL, make sure you follow all the items below exactly.
- I ordered from professionalplastics.com, they are by far the cheapest around include shipping. But takes 2 weeks to ship.
- Make sure you order CELL CAST acrylic (linked) NOT extruded as I suggested in my old setup, because it's more rigid than extrude, given the size of the panel this is very important. Another advantage is the clarity is better but also slightly more expensive. I also selected a slightly thicker size for added rigidity.
- Exact measurement: 2X .187" THICK X 35.375" X 86.3125" @ +/-0.062 TOLERANCE

3) Select the shelf (link: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30215122/#/60203132 )

You need at least 3 pack (for 6 shelves), but given now you can fully adjust the height, i would buy 4 pack (8 shelves). Dont use the glass shelves, they too risky.

select the correct width: 39"x22" and match color to step 1)

4) Select the lighting(optional): (link: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40163844/ )

Select the correct width: 36" see my previous linked post on why this led is so great and the required accessories needed.

5) Install your PAX!

Follow the instructions except for the sliding door steps where it ask you to install the 4x horizontal beams in the two sliding doors, skip them! Just install the frame only and secure the giant acrylic panel in it! It may move slightly which is fine, in the later step you will completely secure it with those rubber plugs.

This is definitely a 2 person job as you need to align the acrylic panel into the little opening on all 4 sides of the door frame.

6) Post pictures :)

---------

COST

1x ikea Pax: $500
2x cellcast acrylic panel: $280 shipped
4x ikea shelves: $100
8x ikea KOMPLEMENT led lighting: $280
Various accessories: $40
Not constantly running out of shelf space: priceless
----
TOTAL: ~$1200

The cost here may seems a bit high at first, but if you consider how many 1/4 statues you can actually fit in this 1 setup compared to a besta or other curios, it is a bargain! Also how good it looks.

--------------------

PHOTOS: All photos are taken through the closed acrylic doors, you can see how crystal clear those panels are - much better than glass, almost 100% light pass through.

I also included some of the shelves to show the amount of statues you can actually fit in 1.

Note: in person, the lighting is no way close to this orange, it's the camera.

Bowed shelf fix! I was at Home Depot today and bought these https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rubbermaid-47-1-2-in-Black-Twin-Track-Upright-FG4B8800BLA/100205296 I used a hacksaw to cut two of them to 37 3/4" long, then filed the edge smooth. I had plans to use these as bracing and to my surprise these fit perfectly over the front and back edge of the shelf. They are totally rigid and do not allow the shelf to bow at all. I took my CM Alien off the shelf, as well as the Komplement LED strip (just the LED not the mount), slipped on the metal pieces, reinstalled the LED and the Alien...and no more bow. It was very easy and cheap at $14 per shelf.

My old shelf support reinforcement post. I still recommend this method.

Hey,

Apologies if you've already mentioned it, but are there shelf supports you'd recommend for Bestas?

Thanks!

If the shelves are the same thickness as the Pax shelves the same method would work, but I’m not sure of the besta specs.

So I was debating between swinging acrylic doors and sliding glass door and since I need two units, I'm going to try the sliding door. I already have the first unit built but need to remove the lights to make changes, however, I can't seem to snap the NORRFLY LED strips out... Watched this youtube tutorial and she made it look so easy but with ALL MY MIGHT i can't get these lights to pop out for the life of me.....

What the heck do I do or is there an easy way to remove them once installed?

Thanks!

I have to use a flathead screwdriver to pry/pop them out. It’s very difficult but they don’t get damaged at all by it.

I’m wanting to add lighting for my double pax display case. Any suggestions? I have been looking into IKEA Deoders for the job. Would that be a good choice?

Yeah, but you don't want to order from them online. You hear nothing but horror stories.

Any suggestions for lighting a pax display case besides DIODERs?
In spite of what I said, I ordered the lights. It seems that smaller stuff like that comes FedEx, and furniture through 3rd party. I got 2 packs of Dioders and it was all good.
