Did uniform colour change

Hi
I have just been given a DID military uniform. I believe its a DID John Coleman, does anybody know what material is used and is it possible to dye it? If so what Dye would be best? I want to change the colour of the jacket and trousers to black.

Depends on the fabric. If its not synthetic, you can probably bleach it then dye it using RIT dye (or similar brand). Chances are its made from cotton and can likely be dyed. The thread might be an issue however. There are dyes that can dye synthetic fabrics however.
