Why would they bring him back? It's a reboot, so you get something different this time around and not the same.

Maybe the show will be good this time :dunno

Joss' typically awesome response (directed to Kristen Somebodyorother at E! )

Kristin, I'm glad you asked for my thoughts on the announcement of Buffy the cinema film. This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, "Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson? This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER." Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, "I'll make a mint! This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!" Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?

I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don't love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I'm also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can't wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I'm making a Batman movie. Because there's a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you.

Leave me to my pain! Sincerely, Joss Whedon.

Looks like they don't understand what Buffy is about. I don't really see the need to reboot. Perhaps continue the series. But a reboot would be covering old ground and that's just ridiculous.

However--if they do this, they should get Hayden Panettiere as Buffy--she seems perfect for the part

From Eliza Dushku's Twitter:

Joss made the "Buffster" & w/out him... I just don't trust the girl. Or the world.

:exactly:

I disagree. To me she's way too annoying. They'll need someone new and fresh. But I still refuse to see it. It's going to make all the people who have yet to see Buffy the tv show, run screaming. Just great! More Buffy bashing. :gah:

So this is different from the "reboot" that was announced a year or so ago?

The only way I see this working, is by making it a "Next Generation" or even "Previous Generation" type thing. But even then, without Joss, it's destined to fail.

A lot of people thought many Marvel characters could not survive without Stan Lee either writing or overseeing things. Well, Marvel not only survived, it thrived. Generations of writers growing up loving the product went on the produce some of the most amazing stories ever written in comics.

While I share much of the disappointment voiced here, why not just wait and see what's being offered? Maybe, just maybe, it won't be all that bad. At the very least, it may spark a solid campaign to bring back the original writers and cast members to participate in a feature flick. Not only that, it may also mean new Sideshow product.

This is what I was hoping for the last time there was rumor of a new show/movie. I'd much prefer a story about the slayer before Buffy..and have a Giles cameo in it while he's in Watcher training or something.(Just to tie the shows together, and who doesn't want more Giles??)

:goodpost:

Well the Buffy-verse will be turned upside down for a lot of people.
This might be a good thing.
I'd have to say no to Hayden playing Buffy...they need a young actress to play her if they want the film series to run for a while.
I'd like to see Bella Thorne play a younger Buffy...like they doing w/ the Spiderman series now.Younger actors so the character can be built up in later films.
