Well this sucks monkey balls!

I was planning on going tonight to pick up a crap load of Bestas shelves, my ikea hasn't had the clear black glassviks for weeks now and I was hoping they would get some down the road so I was just going to buy the shelves and wait. With the glass fronts my order total was going to be $1800 before the 15% off.

I already bought White ones (luckily got everything I need except 2 sets of legs) to go into a converted closet space.

But from the sounds of it I better not buy the shelves. 15% off those is a lot on a purchase this size, I will be pissed if its a minor change. I also hope they don't change the colors and offer something similar to the glassvik (in black) because I want it to match the style of my white ones and really want the black fronts to go with the room design. Ikea you are killing me!

Welcome to the world of everyone that has Tombo doors. I wish Ikea would just put pictures up of what's coming in April. I want to know if the Besta will at least be offered in the old colors still. The doors I can wait and see.

I've heard of color changes, different method of assembly, and new doors. I think they're discontinuing Glassvik as well.

Even though I like the Glassvik doors and to me they are worth double the price because I think they make the cabinets look twice as nice, most people shopping at ikea are not going to spend $45/door when the actual cabinet part is the same price! I am guessing sales were not nearly as good as they hoped for Glassvik (guessing the markavin or whatever its called was even worse since those were like $80/door).

guess I should have decided on these cabinets/doors 2 months ago and gotten them when the sale started, dragged my feet getting quotes from closet places (which are insane, like $10K for basically the same thing the Bestas will do for $1800). I will blame my wife for it

No kidding. I was thinking about getting a couple more but I have to drive to Kansas City or Dallas, which means a weekend trip, and I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to go. I'd like to know if they're not keeping the black/brown so I can make sure to get a couple before they're all gone.

I would be okay if they replaced the black/brown with a "black" but I doubt that will happen. The fact that everything associated with Bestas is on sale, and looks like it will continue to be until the end of March, I think they are changing the entire thing, all old parts won't work.

I guess I will have to wait until spring, my figures have been boxed up for years as it is (townhouse, waiting to buy a house which I finally did!), they can wait another 3 months (not sure I can...)

What worries me is if they dont replace glassvik with an appropriate alternative. For all we know they could have something new with a larger border or only opaque glass. Maybe i should just go with whats available now...just not in my preferred color

I don't know about that. It's a long-standing situation that nice doors are more expensive than the cabinets. This is especially true for kitchens - cabinet shells are nothing compared to the price of the doors. In my own family room I have an awesome base cabinet I built myself - bought 4 high-gloss white doors from IKEA for it @ $66 EACH. Somewhat expensive, but still maybe half the price of comparable doors from a kitchen company.

My guess is IKEA is going to convert the Besta to some kind of ''click fit'' system, something that you won't need screws for, seems to be a new IKEA thing, it is only a guess however.

The comment from IKEA that the colors may vary, and that that the whole besta/inreda accesory production seems to be halted is very disconcerting to me.
I'm not sure what to do now, I was planning to expand my bestas in the future, but buying besta frames and vassbo doors in advance that I won't be needing anytime soon seems a bit rediculous, besides... how many would I need :S

I really hate the fact IKEA keeps making these changes without warning when they advertise the besta as something you can always expand.
I started out with Beech color... which was discontinued soon after... then bought a large Vassbo door, went for another door months later... no more doors in stock, discontinued... then bought a set of small vassbo doors, needed 2 more a while later aaaand.... discontinued... LMAO

oh well...

They tweek the range every April but a complete overhaul would be silly.
As said these are designed to grow with your needs/collection.

I can't see them getting rid of the white nor black-brown base cabinets. Not unless they're going to phase out Besta entirely. Which is doubtful.

Are there any sales or coupons right now? Imma go pick up two besta shelf extensions to put away since apparently besta is changing soon and I need the small shelves for my stupid roof.

I received an email back from ikea confirming the Glassvik is discontinued and no more stock is coming in. They blamed the supplier saying it won't be made any more.

THEN, I was at my local store buying pax for my sons closet and talked to their Besta specialist who was hesitant to talk about it at first but after I explained that I was going to buy the shelves and wait for doors to come in she said not to. She went on to say the entire line is being discontinued and is the reason for the sale. She said there will be a replacement but won't be called Besta and the parts won't be interchangeable.

Yikes. I guess I'll be visiting IKEA tomorrow or in the next couple of days. I thought they had the 15% off as a yearly thing since they had that last year.

They usually do the 15% off Bestas twice a year--that's why I didn't think anything of it. I wasn't expecting them to just get rid of the line entirely. What a pain in the ass.
