Belt help?

I'm trying to "fine tune" a few of my figures and am wanting to make a few custom belts. Are there certain materials I should consider, ones that don't fray, ones where there won't be any color transfer. etc....
I don't want the belt color transferring to the outfits.

I need to make them work with special buckles I bought, thats why I thought I'd try making them myself. Figured I could make 20 for the price of buying a couple and then having to switch the buckles anyway.

Go to Michael's and head fro their jewelry dept. They have losts of different widths and thicknesses of leather bands and strips for people who make their own bracelets. As for colour transfer I think you're ok if you don't get your figures wet.
