Practical > CG

Meh, too skinny, not enough curves, IGN 7/10... Kidding aside, it does look great, the make-up on the face especially.

From a great looking Thanos to Crossbones' thug. What a waste.
Damion Poitier looks freakin' awesome and can act, but they wanted a big name for sales.

He has a much better Thanos look than Brolin. But not enough star power, I reckon. He wasn't in Goonies.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you... Thanos:

Maybe they can keep him in the MCU by having him play Tombstone.

CBM:
It’s been over four years since the big bad Thanos made his cinematic debut during the mid-credits scene of The Avengers. And while he was initially brought to life with a mixture of CGI and practical makeup effects on actor Damion Poitier, the villain’s next appearances were fully CGI with actor Josh Brolin providing his voice and motion-capture performance. Which might explain why the mad titan appeared a bitless photo-real during his short but sweet cameos in Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers: Age of Ultron mid-credits tag.

Considering Thanos will be towering over the majority of Earth’s mightiest heroes when he makes a full-fledged return in the two-part (tentatively titled) Avengers: Infinity War films, no one’s saying Marvel and the Russos should ditch CGI for him altogether; that’d be crazy! However, the folks at Ironhead Studios, who created his gold/purple armor among other things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, have reminded us how great the supervillain would look with mostly practical effects and much less VFX. Check out the photo below!

It's not the makeup, it's the actor under the makeup. The lack of lips, the different nose and eyes makes all the difference.

CGI Thanos could look the same if they didn't make him look more like Brolin.

Yeah, I agree.

But, while I'm over the CGI boogey man, it'd be nice to have some practical FX villain, maybe enhance by CGI but purely CGI Thanos is gonna look like Doomsday, and it's ok for Doomsday because it's Doomsday, but Thanos should have a better presentation than that.

Like Vision's head.
Problem is... they can't go back now that Brolin is signed, marketed but can't play the role physically.
