I agree with you there eamon. good technical skill but no creativity. Not like Olivia deBerardinis who uses models but incorporate an extra oomph look and feel with amazing backdrops.
 
Olivia just uses photos as reference and she is a true painter.

Tracing or using a photo is fine as long as you not a slave to it. Art like the stuff above rarely goes outside of the content of the photo. Which in my opinion is not art but preproduction.

I prefer to draw the girls I want to see as apposed the ones I find.

Guys like Ebas, DeBalfo and even myself draw girls that we wish would exist. That's the true nature of a pinup in my opinion. It's all about fantasy. :)
 
Can't say I like much work like this. ie. the tracing of existing photos. I just don't see much creativity in stuff like this.

if i wanted to look at photo realistic pinups, i would just look at photos in magazines....not a fan!

but everyone has there own view on what art is :D

i prefer to Draw what i would like to see as well
