At this point it's the coat that's bothering me the most. I'm trying to reserve judgement, but the bar was set pretty high for this figure.

Yeah, the paint problems are pretty minor compared to most lately.... so I agree that with me it's mostly the coat. Shouldn't be hard to weather, but still.... not up to the majesty that was the proto coat... :monkey2

come on guys
coat is easy to solve, just take it to the street, scrub it on the ground a few times and get it cleaned there you will go

problem is the face imo. I hope next pics will make us feel better, as I also have big expectations on this

ARGGHHH! Everyone making snap judgements based on a couple of early pics. Haven't we chicken-littled enough around here?

What a piece of crap! Looks nothing like Viggo. Looks more like Russell Crowe. I'm definitely cancelling my order! Geez!

You mean work on it!? Are you kidding? For the price SSC charges, it should walk out of the box all by itself. :D

With all the inconsistancies from prototype to production figure in the star wars line I am not at all surprised in the glaring differences we are seeing here based on these photos. Although I doubt it is due to lighting or the camera or any of the other excuses I have read about due to photography that the green coat looks brand new with some smudges on it, as opposed to the worn and weathered one seen on the proto. I think the same painter that did the mud on this one did the mud on the bottom of some of the SSW Sauron polystone statues. Remeber those fingerprints? They look familiar.

For those of you collecting I hope he "looks better in hand."

Figure looks amazing! The clothes, the gear, but headsculpt looks nothing like Viggo. It actually looks completely different from the prototype pics as well.

EDIT: he's got a "huh?" kind of look.

Wow, either that or a Sassy-gorn (patent pending), either way ... "hush, are you looking at me"

The "mud" on the jacket leaves some to be desired as well.

Unfortunately quite of bit of the "chicken littleing" turned out to be justified on the star wars figures.

Here are two shots I took at SDCC:

Don't the end products turn out looking different from the prototypes all the time (in regards to the 12-inchers and such)? Of course there are varying degress of differences but they don't always come out looking 100% like the prototypes (at least that's what I've noticed with the various lines.

Ok, I read all of Post 1 and did not see any mention of a "sassy gorn". Did I miss something?

Eric

Nah, just my half-bit attempt at some form of humor considering his expression.
