Ujindou made a mess of this one.

An officer's cap and NCO's shoulder boards.

Duplicate use of UD9029, which was already used for the Vietnam War 173rd Airborne Brigade.

The problem of the officer's cap and belt combined with the sergeant's shoulder boards can be avoided with the camouflage uniform by removing the shoulder boards.

As per regulations the only badges of rank that were authorized for wear on camouflage uniforms were the special camouflage subdued rank patches on the upper arms.

A Großdeutschland cuff title ought to have been included in the set for wear on the green summer uniform. Unlike Waffen-SS titles it was worn on the right sleeve, which was one of the notable errors made by Guy Sajer in his supposedly authentic account of his time in the division, The Forgotten Soldier. Regulations forbade the wearing of titles on camouflage, though photos show that wasn't always obeyed.

The green uniform could wear the side cap but he'd still need an enlisted/NCO belt, or go without a belt.

Quite an interesting combo.
So this guy is a tanker, right? Didn't think tankers would get issued the StG44. Also thought that the short lace-up boots with gaiters were more common for tankers and those uniforms, but then again, officers did whatever they wanted...

It's a strange choice.

The way I'm visualising it is that while his rose-pink Waffenfarbe denotes him as part of an armoured unit within the division, he may not currently be part of a tank crew.

Also thought that the short lace-up boots with gaiters were more common for tankers and those uniforms, but then again, officers did whatever they wanted...

They also wore cut down jackboots, but generally without hobnails because they were slippery on metal.

This is a useful post about Panzer boots:

Re: Panzer crew boots

Just spotted this one - A subject close to my heart.

Panzermen were issued the same boots as everyone else. They pulled the studs out of them in order not to slip. Was unofficial, against regs but tolerated for practical reasons. Pre and Early war they wore Marschstiefel (marching boots) and the trousers were bloused but tying them around the lower calf of the boot and letting the excess material drop down to the ankle. (seperate topic on how to - but can be done if needed)

During the war - it became common practice to cut down a pair of marching boots so that in effect they looked like rigger boots. Reasons of practiclaity again - IF your foot was injured or trapped or hot materials fell down the boot top, the standard boots were a ba5tard to get off quickly - You could not just slip your foot out. So by cutting done the boots at their widestppoint they became a lot more "slip on" - Think about it.......

As these boots were fairly common they Panzermanner just tucked their trou in and bloused the excess over the top. The look is quite good if you're prepared to sacrifice a pair of boots!!!!! If you DO go down this route - take them to a proper leatherworker/cobbler to get them cut evenly and the raw edge rolled and durned to stop tearing occurring.

Then there is the low boot or Snurrschue - They wore these and again studded and un-studded versions were used. The only "Special boot" used by them was the cut down standard marching boot - but again - a lot of landsers did this also...... So no special issue items were used - Just adaptations.
