Why is the flag on his jacket backwards?

It's actually backwards because if you imagine it on a flagpole being run into battle, the stars are on the right and the stripes are on the left. The reason it's backwards on military uniforms is because the USA advances in battle and does not retreat. True story. Look it up if you don't believe me. Great looking Rambo by the way!
