1/6 Hot Toys Rogue One: DEATH TROOPER Specialist (Deluxe)

Wasn't going to get any of the RO guys, but I caved and got this guy - and so glad I did. GREAT figure.

One question for everyone - I find his helmet unusually small in size/scale compared with all the other troopers I have around him... anyone else feel this?

This was an intentional design choice when it came to the death troopers. They wanted them to look as if a normal sized head could not possibly fit in the helmet and thus implying that they had undergone some cranial modification.

I never read that. I just assumed they were an alien race due to their size and when they talk you can't understand anything. That makes more sense to me than cranial modification?

I assumed that as well, but later found out that they're comm units scrambled their voices so that only they could understand one another.

It does mention that they were surgically altered at one point, but it doesn't mention anything about their heads specifically.

That reads more like a design approach vs what they ended up doing, heads can definitely fit in those helmets, and just because someones brain is gone doesnt mean theyre head becomes smaller, I do like the lobot idea though, but his modifications made his head profile bigger, so who knows

I think that was an abandoned idea before they finalized the design of the Death Troopers. What we see on screen is people with normal sized heads in normal sized helmets. The people without brains look like this:

Also, there's some speculation that the modifications the Death Troopers have gone through mentioned in the Rogue One Visual Dictionary are actually referring to a practical use of the SW "Zombie" version of Death Troopers seen in the Novels and Comic books:

Yeah, I felt that from the first initial pictures of the HT figures. In hand, the helmets don't seem that much undersized and I've grown to accept them. The Hasbro Titanium Death Trooper helmet is on the other hand way too large and not suitable as a replacement, which is strange as the Titanium helmets are usually pretty close to proper 1/6 scale.

I picked up the deluxe yesterday as I've only just jumped down the rabbit hole that is 1/6 scale collecting. Like others I'm only disappointed that the deluxe doesn't come with all weapons but it definitely seemed like the better option to pick up this one and seek out the regular specialist blaster than pick up the standard DT and the try to pick up the grenades/ammo/pauldron.

This is now my third HT figure and the height of this compared to the HT RO Stormie is surprising. Zero buyers remorse with this one. HT ANH Han Solo next I think.

I also have ANH Han, you won't be disappointed. I would also recommend ANH Chewie over Ep7 Chewie to go with him.

So I just got shipping notification my snowtrooper 2 pack shipped and SS included a free Deathtrooper specialist. How awesome is that?!? It helps I've bought every OT and TFA HT figure but reason why I continue to buy from SS. Very nice gesture. Second free trooper they've offered.
