For the younglings here (myself included) how did the DX line come about? What were some of the things that separated these "deluxe" figures from the standard releases all those years ago?

The only consistent trait among them was that they were the only way to get figures with posable eyes. Beyond that, the contents of each offer varied from much more than a standard MMS release, like parts to make two figures (Joker, Luke Skywalker) to basically MMS releases with posable eyes. For a while, they did feel unique, but as has been said, the line between MMS and DX now is extremely blurred to the point where the DX label makes no sense. As an example, here are two recent Darth Vader figures, one a DX, one an MMS, yet hardly any distinction in overall package content.

God this looks amazing and is so refreshing.

Now if HT could make more from Pirates and a new Arnold for T1's 40th Anniversary I'd be very happy.

I always had a soft spot for the Enterbay head, it's not perfect, certainly misses the mark in some areas but it's the only sculpt out there of Jack that reminds me of CotBP, I wonder what you think of it? Most seem to hate it.

I think the Enterbay head has a good likeness. For me, something about his cheeks seem too round, hard to describe, and the expression isn’t my personal preference. It actually feels a lot like the DX15 expression, which I also don’t like.

For me, the optimal Jack portrait has a smirk like this.

That’s why I like the DX06.

The latest HT is close, still a bit more “smiley”, but the likeness is also fantastic.

Yeah I find it hard to believe a piece of cloth for the bandana and some wooly dreadlocks being $165 more
Do you think... HT is screwing us? Really? No...

While we're on the topic, has anyone taken a close look at the costume specifications (see below - same for all 3 versions)? Everyone is praising HT for giving us leather belts, but it seems only 50% of them are leather. I can understand the gator-skin belt not being genuine leather, but this also indicates that the diagonal band across his chest with the attached saber sheath is still a "leather-like" material. It may not be an issue (anyone with previous versions please chime in), but I don't see why that one couldn't be real leather as well - unless duplicating the pattern was problematic. I guess as long as it's not pleather either it should be OK?

Costume:
- One (1) leather-like brown-colored hat (detachable)
- One (1) piece of cream-colored long-sleeved shirt
- One (1) patterned blue colored vest
- One (1) dark brown coat
- One (1) pair of dark brown pants
- One (1) dark brown genuine leather belt
- One (1) light brown genuine leather belt
- One (1) gator skin leather-like belt
- One (1) dark brown leather-like patterned shoulder band with saber sheath
- One (1) red striped scarf
- One (1) pair of genuine leather brown boots
- One (1) black wristlet
- One (1) lace wristlet

Wasn't the joker about the same in price difference?

I do think the Artisan version should of included something extra that was exclusive also.
It was, but there's more of a clear difference between rooted and sculpted Joker, IMO. Both versions of Jack look very similar at a glance. Honestly, the bandana is more noticable at a distance than the hair.

EXTRA 200 dollars for WOOL HAIR?

Come one now...that is ridiculous. I want to TRY it...but 200 dollars more is a ridiculous price difference for wool hair. I am sure that small amount of wool is very cheap to buy and make because machines.

I wouldn't mind a second Jack Sparrow...I have the DX05 or 06 whatever number that was.....

After shipping and tax this is like close to 600 dollars Artisian...no way Jose.

It’s very interesting how we all see things differently. The DX06 looks almost nothing like Depp to me, so much that I never even used it when I had it. I even prefer the prototype DMC smirking headsculpt over the DX06 one. I think we can all agree that that new one beats them all though

That's the look I want for my Sparrow.

That 2003-2006 look

I love Enterbay, they did a terrific job with their sculpts and IMHO to this day still have best T2 Likeness - even with proto shots of new P1 pieces....

Well when you put it that way.... 😁
Dunno if the hair to sculpt is machine stitched. Far as I know InArt, and Asmus, used the (tedious) glue-on method.
Not sure what HT does. Plus it isn't just hair, they have to felt it into dreadlocks.
I'd have gone for it; but again, with the DX using a mix of sculpted and rooted, from 3 feet away or more on a shelf will I even notice (and I doubt my waitlist will convert).

I'd guess anything with a pattern/tooled leather isn't going to be made with real leather. IMO the plastic bandana was kind of a cop-out tho.

The DX06 is the preferred look but I'm super happy we got a artisan Jack! I'm seeing a lot of hate saying it's pointless, so to those collectors I say..... Enjoy all 300 variations of Iron man while we enjoy are 3 Jacks! 😂

:pfft:Folks run their collections the way they want. I own almost every version of Captain America. I stopped at V1 of Dr. Strange because I figured that was an iconic release and I didn't need anything more for the character. *Shrug*. JS is one character I'm happy to have more than one. Great costume. Great accessories. I think Time magazine voted Jack Sparrow one of the 100 most notable characters of the century, or something, at one point. People forget how POTC reinvigorated pirate movies.
Then hundreds of cosplayers rose as one, buying up long wigs and hair beads.:lol

Everything is different on this from the Dx06-Dx15. Not only are the belts real materials that will no longer fall apart plus the added updated accessories on them like the rope around the snake belt, and the fur pelt on the last leather belt are more screen accurate. But the clothes is more accurate also(though the shirt collar seems smaller and it wasn't like that before) as the vest is longer, pants are correct also. the Saber belt not being leather is interesting but I imagine you answered the question it's probably due to the pattern being done in scale with real leather. Though as you said as long as it doesn't fall apart it will be fine and not to mention it's more accurate this time then the previous two.

Or, you know, you could buy the Regular edition and still get real leather for the usual price. Getting this worked up about the Artisan price when there are other, reasonably priced versions feels a bit silly, but I know the Hot Toys hate runs deep. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think the struggle here is, we didn't really know what was coming until the Artisan went up, so when time to jump on the Artisan came, people were just thinking it's just an Artisan release like Anakin and trying to get orders in.

After that dust settled, the details for the other 2 versions came to light and people were able to take time to compare and now people are realizing the differences.

If details for all 3 versions were shared prior to the Artisan preorder, I think people would have ordered differently and thought things through more and been able to realize the price differences vs the package differences.

Well I missed out on the Artisan but I would have passed on it and opted for the Collector or Deluxe version regardless. I don't hate HT by any means but that doesn't mean I won't poke fun at some of their questionable pricing & business practices (& I'm pretty sure Ebor was being sarcastic as well).
