Ummmmm what? Star Wars has always been diverse? Why get rid of white guys?
I’m not really suggesting we should “get rid of them”. I’m one of them. But I think it’s more than weird to be pressed because there aren’t enough of them (whatever that means) in a show or movie given the history of entertainment in general. Just because something doesn’t feature a majority of white males doesn’t necessarily make it “bad”. At least evaluate it based on story and entertainment value. And we simply don’t have that much to go on yet in that department. Many of the comments here seem to be about the showrunner and her appearance than anything in the trailer itself. And that’s pathetic.

It's not exactly a reach. People that look like that tend to fit a certain profile. I'm willing to give the show a chance, though I have my doubts.

Also, we're not talking about a movie/show having a "majority of white men." It's pretty frequent now that there's not a white man to be seen. Aside from villains.

Hell yeah, Star Wars is BACK baby!!! :rock

Umm wut that trailer sucked.

It could’ve been all white males and it still would’ve sucked.

And again, I’ll say…who cares as long as it’s a good show? Unless, of course, you’re saying…representation matters? If your argument is that you can’t enjoy a show without white men, then imagine how everyone else felt for the last 100 years of cinema.

Representation has been the primary goal and the actual import things, like story, have taken a back seat. I never said that representation didn't matter. Nor did I say that I can't enjoy a show without white men. Some baseless assumptions there, mate.

The main problem with everything coming out today is it should be about balance. Equality. Not righting a wrong by completely eliminating the evil majority. That defeats the purpose and alienates the largest fan base with a sour taste in their mouth. It just sticks out like a sore thumb now. It's hard not to see it and ignore it. The biggest problem today is it just feels forced and serving the "agenda" with "representation" rather than feeling natural.

I think the majority of characters in Star Wars SHOULD be alien. But the biggest problem in properly doing that would be the cost/budgets.

Fair enough. But I don’t think we can say that story has taken a back seat here based on a two minute trailer. The primary reactions thus far have been about the casting and showrunner, per my earlier point. If the story is bad, so be it. But counting the number of white faces seems rather silly to me.

Do we have a pool on how long before this thread gets locked?

People aren't just reacting poorly to a single, two-minute trailer. They've become disillusioned by a slew of ****y new entries into the Star Wars cinematic universe that have all been ruined by the same idiotic choices that many assume will plague this latest entry. It's hard not to be negative when a majority of Star Wars media has ranged from trash to mediocre.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume people are racist or "counting the white faces." However, when it's a clear directive in Hollywood, to focus on any race and gender but white and male, people are going to take notice and make their criticisms. Any group can be discriminated against, not just minorities. None of it is okay.

Who knows, maybe this new show will be amazing and the naysayers will have to eat crow. I'm not willing to put money on that outcome but one can hope.

Arguably the third best SW film of all time (Rogue One) didn't have a white male as part of its ensemble cast of heroes but it worked because it was in capable hands and looked awesome from the get go. I can't say either for The Acolyte.
