Those arent paint rubs but the outer layer of the rubber peeling off unless they use really rubbery paint like plastidip. if you plan on touching up you need to seal off the edges with some adhesive first and use leather/fabric paint which can be expensive as you need to get few bottles to mix matching color. angelus has wide range of brown but it is impossible to tell how they look like with just sample pictures. you can try normal acrylic paint if it is really small areas.

Can this project be accomplished for those of us that are DIY challenged?
Definitely! With a little time and patience it’s super simple.

The under side just looks like this:

I plan to glue everything to the underside. The heat shrink tube will need a heat gun on it though. Not everyone has one of those.

could have routed the wires in 2 pairs 1 from left 1 from right so you can wrap them together and less messy.

shrink tube should work with hair dryer or lighter.

Yeah, these LED kits are nice because they come with long wires you can trim to the length you want but they can look messy when assembled. Once I have everything set the way I like it I’ll post another pic.

Can't wait to see it!
Did you do anything to the lights, like cut or drill space or are they hollow?

Can you link to the exact kit you purchased? I'd love to try that but not sure which size led's I need in a kit to make sure it fits in this stage. Thanks!

I bought the battery switch and led kit from EvanDesigns:

I got the 3V Nano leds. You can choose the color as well. Great site for wiring lights into model cars or doll houses. Great instructions on the site as well.
