Two unrelated adaptations of the same novel within a year or so of eachother seems a bit far fetched to me, considering the breakout success of the Swedish film, and knowing Hollywood's tendency to borrow ideas. There's a quote from Reeves in this article that strongly indicates, to me at least...

Just got this game yesterday...and wow, I wasn't expecting it to be that good! Incredibly well designed, written etc. Easily the most enjoyable game I've played in a long time. Just got past the second Scarecrow section, thought the Bruce flashback was pretty cool.
