Very odd behavior from the Sculpey, is it old? Left unwrapped for a while? I use Super Sculpey, Sculpey 3, Chavant clay when working in smaller scales and WED clay when I work on large scale. If your looking for a stronger material maybe try wax? There is a brand called CX5, which starts off...
