I have the ANH V1 and R1 versions...but if i was looking for my first vader i'd try pick up the ANH tarkin one...as it's the best of both previous versions and you still get the light-up saber as well....the differences in the paint apps on the face mask are subtle at best and shouldn't deter you.

That was my understanding as well. I have the V2 version and have seen the micro photos of the different paint apps but to be honest, unless you have Vader under a hot light and inspecting with a magnifying glass, you will not see the difference. Heck, I cannot even see the tiny specs of wear Hot Toys added and Vader is right in front of me.

I am going to skip the Empire version and wait for the Jedi Vader. Hopefully Hot Toys will include an extra head sculpt of Sabastion Shaw, along with a full mask version, so there is no futzing keeping the helmet pieces together.

Hey thanks for posting that pic!

Question for you guys that have swapped parts and such: Are the straps on the codpeice a different length from the V1 to the V2? The strap on my V1 is too short to attach when I pull it up to be closer to the belt and chest box (I just kinda have the strap tucked between his legs, which blows lol).

I had v1 and then got the v2 with the Tarkin two-pack.
Overall, I think v2 is better but for some small (and maybe not so small details):

- The suit doesn't feel as nice as the v1, but it does fit better
- The lightsaber hilt is wrong
- The shoulder bells are the wrong color (all black)

All the rest seems equal or better on the v2.
Needless to say, I switched the shoulder bells and kept the unlit hilt of the v1.

Hmm can anyone spare some comparison shots? If not, I can go looking for it. Just wondering how heavy handed we're talking about here.

You would need both v1 & v2 to make a proper ANH Vader.

Like many, I bought a complete set of the gloves and a pair of boots (have the strap missing on v1) from the v2 to swap with my v1. It's nice that the chest and belt boxes are weathered, but the v1 I believe is more accurate. The chest box is weathered and larger on the v2, but I don't like how small the buttons look. And same with belt boxes. Nice they are weathered, but they are over sized and a little different in detail.

The biggest problems for me with the Tarkin v2 ANH Vader is the lightsaber hilt being wrong, as they included the RO (movie mistake)/ESB hilt. Which also makes the light up arm wrong as it too has the wrong lightsaber hilt, even though it has the better gloves. After having the correct version with v1, how on earth they messed that up is beyond reasoning. Especially since the RO figure didn't even have a light up saber arm. And also the shoulder bells are wrong being painted black. rather than the correct grey like the chest armor. Again, makes no sense. v2 is like an amalgam of parts from ANH v1 & RO (and studs on belt and chest box from ESB even although they seem to maybe be accurate with some movie stills even though mostly not visible).

v3 will fix all this eventually...

Difference is indeed subtle, but the weathering on the v1 sculpt looks more about right to me.

Thank you all so much for the replies. They're really helpful. Yeah I really can't tell the difference in the helmet sculpts. I would either get a modded V1 or a V2. The glove issue and lightsaber don't really bother me as much, as the sculpt and proportions.

If you like ANH Vader that much, I would strongly recommend 2 pack Vader -Tarkin, BBTS still has it at retail . Consider the current state of ridiculously high price of loose Vader or Tarkin on Ebay, this 2 pack is definitely a good deal.

Thanks man. I noticed that yesterday. I think I really do like the ANH Vader the most. His look is so iconic and they absolutely nailed it IMO.

I'm going to display him with Anakin for now, or at least until the other Sith Lords come in.

Very true. But I managed to find Vader on his own for a great price from a fellow freak. I really didn't want Tarkin, or to pay around $500 out the door from BBTS for the set. I'm so excited to have the ANH 2.0 Vader. I know people find fault with it, but after having the SS ESB/ROTJ Deluxe Vader with his long helmet mask, skinny legs, baseball bat lightsaber, and crappy cape, this figure looks like a godsend lol.

I really wanted to scale him to Tarkin height-wise. Close enough I think.





I wonder what they did to the ESB body (which is the same as the ANH body) to make it visibly shorter? I'd like to do that so I can keep the electronics for what they're worth.
