Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

Gotcha, I hadn't seen that post.

That's very interesting, wonder if posable eyes will be part of the package, if they do it'll likely be done the same way as Bale Batman. Just curious what about Maul will constitute it as a DX vs a standard release or a Deluxe, he doesn't come with the level of detail and accessories that typically define a DX.

Probably posable eyes and the speeder makes it constitute a DX. The DX07 Luke didn’t have a high level of details either. The Maul costume and cloak actually has a lot of details, but as they’re black they might be hard to see.

There are details and layers, but it's still overall simple compared to something like Jack Sparrow, and Luke was basically two whole figures in a box which made up for it. With Maul a DX likely due to the Bike, that's a shame because plenty of people won't want the bike or the expense, an all or none approach kind of sucks and being that it's a bike included, I'm sure he'll cost more, even though DX Jack is same price as Sideshow Maul, I doubt we'll get the bike included for cheap, love to be wrong though, but this is sounding more like a $400 release.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

This just had to be a deluxe, right? It couldn't be a regular release for $260.

No, but a DX is all or nothing while a regular/deluxe is allow you to choose. That said, I believe the speeder and the probe droid would be too big a thing to only make it a deluxe.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

If the DX is the speeder it's a pass. I got no room for that and it's not iconic at all. Maul is. I hope to god we get a reg release of just him.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

Indeed, I get people taking issue with it existing, but, it's a feature, and probably why Sideshow didn't worry about it, that you'll never notice on display. For me it's a hinder to my photography, but on display Sideshow maul looks incredible.

I'm not hating on the HT or choosing sides or trying to justify getting the Sideshow version, but I genuinely, so far, don't see anything about this figure that really blows Sideshow's away, and i would have expected it to make me instantly regret not holding off, as much as I love the Sideshow and was so glad I was able to get one, there are areas I foresaw an HT version improving upon and the con display, or at least photos so far from it, are not convincing me of that.

The areas for HT to improve on would be:

- Skin texture on the head.
- Lack of seam on the head.
- Including more accessories (cloak, single blade saber, probe droid wrist control)
- More accurate costume.

One thing I see being a bit polarizing is light up saber feature, because I see them either doing it with the double saber and people being upset with where and how the hand is positioned and it limiting pose options, or not including it and people being mad they didn't.

I think best bet is non-lit double saber, with a lit single blade, damaged saber.

What's crazy is there is a very good chance this comes in around $230 like Jedi Luke, a regular version without bike that is, same cost as Sideshow and it'll come with more in the package.
Gonna have to agree with most of this.

Personally, I won’t be upgrading. Sure, as a huge fan of the character, it is tempting. However, the sculpt just does not look as good. It almost looks like a cosplayer in makeup. A very good one, mind you.

Now, things could change when they unveil the official product page, but so far it’s looking like I get to save some money.

Those that skipped out on the Sideshow version did a disservice to themselves. It is the singular best thing Sideshow has ever produced, in my honest opinion.

Instant PO as I'm aching for an upgrade from the first SS Maul(circa 2006).

Totally agree. Although I can’t make any comparison calls based off that one pic of HT Maul.

One things for sure is that the SS Naboo Maul is a stellar figure and those upgrades you mentioned would definitely get me to buy HT’s but it would take a lot, a whole lot, to blow SS’s out of the water.

I keep telling myself that I'm happy enough with the SSC V2 and I dont need this... but deep inside I know I'm gonna fold like a cheap lawn chair for this release.

I’m currently doing that with Jango. So, I feel your pain. :lol

lol! Yeah... luckily I never got the SS Jango, so I'm not even gonna try to deny that I'm gonna order that one

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

I’ve been thiiiiiis close to getting Sideshow Maul and Jango too. There’s plenty of comic book shops that I know still carry the sideshow Jango. I wonder how that will go with this coming out now ha

I’m right there with you... with both Maul and Jango. Problem is that both SSC versions are great or have great shelf presence, but it’s so hard to be completely satisfied when an upgrade is presented to you.
Regarding the Maul it’s only the accessories as the SSC figure itself is pretty much perfect.
I’m a bit disappointed that the only two figures I really want this year are figures that I already have pretty good versions of. And the third one I would have wanted, the R2, is of no concern to me as I wouldn’t use the accessories and I prefer the weathering of the TFA version.

Well, considering the price-gouged Medicom version I got snapped like a twig in three separate places, I had to upgrade. It was like a sign from god or something. That same week, Sideshow unveiled their Jango.

Even if I upgrade, I may keep the SSC Jango though.

Maul isn’t remotely as tempting—yet.

You should know by now that the TT vs the SSC body will always be superior for a figure , so no doubt , this Maul will be a must have :lol

Depends on how you pose your figures. The poses I want for this figure wouldn’t benefit from another body.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and Sith Speeder

DX is great! If the speeder doesn't fit with my display, I can probably sell it easily.

You nailed it with that sentence right there!

Lol yeah I had both Medicom Jangos at one point too. Honestly beautiful figures (especially the Geonosis version). Realiy the only reason I sold mine was because of the smaller scale, they just didnt look right wih the rest of my collection.
