so once you’ve seen it once, even if it is scary, you know those scares are coming, does that mean a good horror movie is only good if you only watch it once? it will be bad on its 2nd viewing?

I understand what you mean, but if a horror movie's fear factor comes from specific scenes so bland and unimaginative to the point of not bein' scary at all... Yes, that's bad. This movie didn't have the mood of a horror film, didn't felt like something unique, interesting or memorable. It was just another modern horror movie that tried to sit on two stools but instead fell between them in a non-funny fashion.

I look at this flick more like I do Stranger Things. It’s more coming of age than just straight horror. I liked IT. Solid 8/10 in my book.

Way too generous, I gave it a 6.

In all seriousness I did like some of the kid characters (I.E., Beverly and Bill), but they failed with the clown IMO... I didn't find him the least bit scary.

That's kind of what the book tone is too. And the scares are more Haunted Mansion in nature than psychological terror.

I just see the 2 in the same category. Not scary, but horror-thrilller with comedy sprinkled in. You can’t deny the similarities tho, group of witty kids, who all have a crush on one girl, who come together to fight a monster without help from adults, with loads of “pop culture” references. Pretty similar.

The whole story is an old trope from 80's so the similarities between the two are not something to deaw attention to. The direction and overall execution is what one should question. StraTh is payin' homage to 80's all the way through, with visuals and editing of that era. while doin' something more modern and a bit edgy with the plot and story. IT tries to be a modernized take on the 80's classic that was payin' homage to 50's, and failed to become anything at all.

I did have a lot of fun LMOA during the scene where he dances - I totally wasn't expecting that and had such a hard time trying not to laugh out loud in the theatre.

I guess I should give the movie some degree of credit for having laughable aspects like that, because when you don't have those, you end up with God-awful, bleak, and depressing movies like Pet Semetery that make you feel like wanting to kill yourself after watching them.

Fear comes from suspense, it's a slow build and not a thing jumping out at you with a loud noise. Old horror movies that scared when I first saw them still have a compelling suspensive atmosphere and can still give you a bit of a creepy feeling if you can get immersed into the story, that's how I feel when I watch the Mist. There's also some movies that I hadn't seen in a really long time and still managed to give me a scare the third or fourth time I watched it, that actually happened to me last year with the first Pet Cemetery which I hadn't seen since the late 90's.

That's also incorrect. The Goonies came three months prior to King's novel. The Monster Squad is also unrelated to King, but obviously was one of the major inspirations for StraTh.

Plus StraTh has teens and grown-ups with their own parts of the story, which were influenced by many things outside of King's work of related cinema.
