That wasn't funny at all... Cynical classless edgelords are never funny to watch. It's embarassing.

Well the Roman soldier that pierced Jesus immediately believed in him. It's a nice twist when given the moment he attempted to kill Kal. I imagine he has a twist with Lois and mentioning of his mother to something of the Virgin Mary or Mary Magdalene

Lol I get the imagery... and Superman being Jesus and all... and I actually quite like BvS... but that explanation doesn’t make a lick of sense :lol

Isn't he simply stating that he wanted to make that analogy with Christ? Maybe it escaped some of the sharper movie-going audience?

So Snyder's saying that Batman's motivation came from the story in the Bible. Batman sees Superman as Jesus, and wants to pierce his side after death like the Roman soldier that Batman perceives himself to be. Because. . .?

Snyder's just too sophisticated for me.

Yeah I missed the part in the the Gospel of John where Judas Iscariot was chasing around Jesus with a crucifix tipped spear.

The purpose of the soldier isn't that he pierced Jesus. During his walk to Golgotha he began to challenge his idea of Jesus. He was witness to Mary, mother of Jesus, being caring and loving and baring no hate to those torturing Jesus.

During the moment of crucifixion he doubted the cause of the Roman's and began to take pity on Jesus. After death he chose to proclaim his death and assisted all of those that have been a part of his life. The plight is actually noticeable with Batman. Perhaps it is too on the nose for most, but I find it to be a fantastic connection as well since we believed Superman to be a God.

I feel like Snyder is always reaching for connections when it's convenient for him. He puts little things in here and there so people can go "Oh, that makes it a much better piece of **** film". We get it--the guy loves religious imagery with Superman. Too bad he didn't make the character have qualities associated with Jesus. Remember all the parts of the Bible when Jesus was moping around and giving up on humanity? Or when he banged Mary Magdalene in the bathtub before marrying her? Or when Jesus snapped the taxman's neck? Or were those stories that just didn't make it into the King James version?

Snyder is just a splash-page director picking shots that look good in the moment or for film poster with no regard to what's going on in the actual story. Next he'll probably say the soldier and Jesus both had moms named Mary. :slap

Mary was actually a common name though lol.

I dont think he is going for the angle of Superman being EXACTLY Jesus, but rather Jesus was a gamechanger and Superman would very much be the same if he truly existed in the real world. I'm often baffled that people hate that realism but tend to love those mix genre films like TWS or TDK when both largely point to realism. Of course we got elements that may or may not be absurd like cellular sonar or helicarriers the size of Rhode Island

But from my reading this isn't Snyder saying, "I gave Batman the spear because. . ." Instead, he seems to be saying, "Batman chose the spear over countless other, more reasonable weapons, because. . ." implying that the choice was a deliberate one by Batman, who was inspired by the Bible. If that is the case, why would Batman emulate a character in the Bible who eventually realized he was wrong, and go on to feel tremendous regret?

I guess if you really want to give Snyder the benefit of the doubt, you could say it is because Batman is a self-pitying, masochistic maniac, driven by his subconscious desire to always be miserable and regretful.

Oh yeah lol. I thought it was a Q&A, no? I assumed someone said why would he use a spear and Snyder explained he reasoning. It would bring up the discussion as to why Batman himself was using that as it never was in any source material to use a batspear or whatever.

Thought murder Batfleck used a spear because guns are too quick. You can't savor all the little emotions.

Or the director chose it because it looked kewl. Which I agree.
