Even though there are numerous in-hand photos of this floating around the forums - and has been since the beginning of October – I thought I would do a different type of review than my first impression, that gets more into the nitty-gritty.

First off, I must say I’m far happier with the one I received than the one I saw in-hand in the shop back on November 13th. The colors are much better, and more inline with the other photos others folks have put up.

But…

PAINT APPS: even though I’m happy with the overall “look,” the paint apps are a little basic. As you can see in the photos, everything is in “chunks” of color (the side panels, as an example), that highlight the individual die-cast pieces, rather than making it feel like it’s all one ship – like it was one color when it “rolled off the assembly line”. (I hope this makes sense, but if you look at the actual Falcon - again, the side-panels – it looks like they were the same color as the rest of the ship when it was first built, and just got dirtier over the years). Same with the shell of the cockpit, the inserts of the mandibles, etc.

DETAILS: are okay for die-cast, but are very heavy-handed in most areas, but then soft in other areas. Saying that, it’s not bad by any means, and does the job - but if you know the details of the ship intimately, you’ll know what I mean. An addition gripe I’ve noticed, other than the obvious seams, is the top gun – it’s all one piece. It’s not overly noticeable in photos, but in-hand it looks really toy-like and cheap.

SCALE: it is quite small – particularly for the money. It looks and feels like an expensive toy (like an old Dinky toy), rather than a replica (which of course it’s not), and for me personally, I think it is too expensive for what you get. At the originally quoted $299, it would have been amazing. But after 8 and a half years since the reveal, sadly they didn’t make that happen.

PRESENCE: it still gives a good impression to an untrained eye (although, as mentioned, it is small).

CONCLUSION: it will all come down to how particular you are. I now have the MR, the Bandai, and this, and for “as-near-to-the-real-thing-accuracy” goes, the Bandai is the clear winner. But for a no-effort, straight out of the box display representation of an iconic ship, the EFX is a good option I suppose.

Regardless of my issues with EFX as a company, I can never say anything bad about their finished products, as they are normally fantastic. This however, doesn’t feel like one of their products. It’s far too toy-like compared to anything they’ve ever done before under the Star Wars banner. Even the PCR helmets come across as more “authentic” feeling than this.

Will I keep mine? Maybe. I’ll put it on my desk for the time being and see if it continues to grow on me. But I dare say, once my Bandai has finished being painted, this may find its way onto eBay ☹

Thanks for the honest feedback.
I agree with all of the points you've made and what makes your opinion important to me is that you have a very good basis of making comparisons since you have 2 other models.

Honestly look at those in hand pics- very Hasbro like detailing- I mean LOOK at the piping and stacked tier details on the sides and such- very very basic. To me very overpriced to say the least. The Bandai kit is very very accurate to ALL the details. Yes you get a built Falcon but even the paint aps look bad.

350mm diameter x 32mm H

Did you want the pole length or the overall height from the bottom of the base to the top of the Falcon?

Thanks, Mandible! :duff

Just the base itself. Was trying to figure out what shelves if any it might fit on top of at my place.

Thanks Mandible, Did you order from EFX directly? I am curious I'm still waiting.. in the US although. EFX doesn't reply to emails. I'm trying to figure out if their claim according to product details for it are true:
"November 15, 2017
Our International Distributors have all received their allocations of Falcons, so if you ordered your Falcon from an international retailer, you should be receiving shortly. If you ordered from the US, those Falcons are scheduled to be shipped from Hong Kong by the end of November."

Hey Roadhouse. Sorry, I'm international - not US - so I guess their statement is spot-on... for once :)

Thanks gents - and thanks Rusty for the kind words, sir.

I have to say, the more time I spent with this, I more I think they really dropped the ball :( Again, it's not totally abhorrent by any means, but there's just so many little things they could have done (without much effort) that would have made it a better piece... particularly for the price. It should be $399 maximum.

The base, although well made, is another real missed opportunity; they should have made it to put an acrylic cover over the top.

I tried contacting EFX several times to cancel my order. Based on the photos above, I do not want it. It looks cheap!

Good luck with that. If I could have canceled it I would have done it a year ago. They never respond to questions, requests for updates, damage issues or cancellations. In short, they do not respond to anything. Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Sadly this is very true.

On another note EFX did send out emails:

First, we would like to thank you for your patience!

As some of you have already read on our website, your Millennium Falcon is en route from Hong Kong and is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles on December 23. We will contact you when it arrives and give you the instructions to pay the balance due, if you only placed a deposit.

Of course they send correspondence when they want money.

POS company that needs to go the way of the dodo.

I have been researching the Bandai 1/72 and it has ruined me. Lol! I think I just may have found an option that I can afford and will have a much better Falcon than this one. Only catch is I have to build it first.

I never knew EFX had such a bad reputation. So many people on facebook complained about them, basically said they are con artists. They recommended filing a complaint with the FBI then some got their money back. Not even a phone number, can you believe that? Well never again for me.

I'm looking for a little help... Can anyone who has received this share the shipping specs? The weight is probably good enough but if you have the box dimensions that would be helpful too. I've search online and sent an inquiry to efx but who knows if I'll hear back. I'm trying to get a shipping estimate from Sideshow but they said efx hasn't sent them the specs yet. I provided them with the range of prices I've seen for shipping online but the response I received was a guess of $20 - $35. Considering my Stormtrooper Han was basically $20 I'm not optimistic about the low end of the range. Any help is greatly appreciated!
