Ok, taking another second to actually look at the Venkman sculpt again...

Looks pretty good to me. Say that's atrocious and you're lying to yourself.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Makes no sense to me how people keep ripping on these figures, particularly Venkman. These are literally just 1:6 scale figures. They are figures. Of course every photo isn't going to be perfect and flattering. Personally, I think they look awesome and I can't wait for my special pack.

You can take a photo of literally anything thats available to buy in this world and compare it to a photo of how it was advertised and it won't look 100% like it. Some people just take it more personal than others.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Found some random pictures of Venkman figures with the Snyderman sculpt. I do think it's a decent sculpt, probably would be your best option if BW didn't make these figures, but I do see more of Murray in BW's sculpt. In the Snyderman sculpt, I personally see roughly 40% Bill Murray, 60% Bill Maher.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Why does everyone keep using the most unflattering pictures they can find of these figures (the ToyArk ones) to make their case on how poor these figures turned out? :lol

IAT has shared several in hand images showing how nice these turned out overall and how a little futzing can make them look even better, but people seem to ignore those and elect to focus on the ones that show them in the most unflattering light?

It's rather infuriating isn't it. There were some good pictures posted yesterday also, I forget who's they were, but yep every time someone want's to say how lame these figures are they use those same initial pics.

Egon and Ray look near perfect to me and Winston might actually have the strongest sculpt of the set. Shame the poor paint app takes away from that but the likeness is certainly there. Going off the pics and video available so far I think Venkman has the weakest sculpt of the four but still not bad by any means.

I think we all just need to agree that Venkman is neither "atrocious" nor "awesome." It's very solid and decent, it's got a big dose of recognizable Murray in there, but the likeness isn't ideal, and the expression - while perhaps working for a handful of "stunned" Venkman moments, doesn't capture his character's mischievious, fun and sardonic vibe.

But it's a strong, hyper-realistic, high-end effort that handily eclipses anything that has been done with customs in the past, and is very much a worthy introduction of Venkman into the realm of $200+ figs in the Detolf.

I'd actually say there's maybe 10% John McEnroe in there somewhere too. I seem to recall liking the "talking"/open mouth Snyder Venkman sculpt a little more then the closed-mouth, but likeness issues aside, they just don't have the level of sculpt detail the BW sculpt has, and they'd cost more than the entire BW fig to get a top-level paint up.

From a likeness and expression perspective, I still think the 1/4 scale Hollywood Collectibles statue is the best Venkman sculpt ever done (by Trev Grove) but it's 1/4 scale, doesn't have the same level of ultra-detail as the BW, and has statue-type paint apps - aka Sideshow Premium Format circa 2010 apps - so not even in the same realm as BW or HT 1/6 apps. In that way, hard to compare really.

I may actually be 60% Frank Stallone, 30% Bill Maher, and only 10% Bill Murray on this one...either way I do not see a realistic comparison between this and the Blitzway figure...no offense to anyone who may have shelled out more than the cost of one of Blitzway's figures for the Frank Stallone sculpt.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

anyone care to do the all important **** height comparision?

Watching GB right now...still hilarious....even knowing the entire movie line by line....

Spengler is the tallest
Then Ray
then Venkman.....at least in the film...

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Egon's way taller. But Venkman and Stantz seem about the same height, at least going by the Mayor scene.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

What is the likelihood that another company will make 1/6 scale ghostbusters? I really like these figures minus Winston but I've never purchased outside of Hot Toys. Is there some kind of licensing history?

Okay... so... it's a dog.

Thought maybe an ultimate troll stunt might get things back on track from the absurd "atrocious" and "awesome" extremes pendulum this is back to.

Well I don't think anyone necessarily needs to agree on anything. As was mentioned before, all these likenesses are subjective. Personally, I would give Egon and Ray 9 out of 10's, Venkman an 8.5/10, with Winston being an 8 only because of the subpar paint job. Better paint apps would probably push that one up to the best sculpt of the four at a 9.5/10. Regarding Venkman, 8.5/10 obviously isn't perfect. Like I said though, I think when it comes to 1/6 scale, getting someone's likeness utterly perfect is extremely difficult when you're dealing with something this small. It does happen, but very rarely. I consider anything 8 and above to be a pretty good sculpt on my scale.

So in this case, I do agree with you that the Venkman sculpt isn't dead on accurate as it does have its inaccuracies, but it's by far not horrible and is a pretty darn good 1/6 rendition of him as Peter Venkman if I must say so myself. If one thinks the sculpt is horrible, that's fine of course, but I think to come in and simply say "nope, it's bad" without giving any sort of input or offering anything of substance, comes off a bit trollish and douchey.

I couldn't be more excited to receive these guys and I think they're going to be the jewel of my collection.

I'm still going with the 60/40 Maher/Murray ratio. It literally looks like an amalgamation of those two to me. :lol

As I mentioned, if BW didn't make these figures, I suppose that sculpt would be your best option. However, the Murray likeness in my opinion between the Snyderman and BW sculpts is no comparison; I see Murray hands down way more in the BW one. It doesn't look like anyone else. It's only drawback to me is the shape of his head is slightly incorrect which is what throws it off, but facial likeness wise, it's Murray all the way.

What is the likelihood that another company will make 1/6 scale ghostbusters? I really like these figures minus Winston but I've never purchased outside of Hot Toys. Is there some kind of licensing history?

Well Soldier Story is tackling Egon and Venkman, but based on just their prototype pictures, they pale in comparison to these while being slightly more expensive. M8 had them on their list of licenses they have, but going by the current John Lennon figure fiasco (last time I checked at least), who knows what to believe with them.

I don't really see any other company making them, except maybe Big Chief Studios? Definitely don't see HT ever making them, at least not any time soon. Star Wars, MCU and DCEU is where they're at right now, in that order.

Yep...I think the only issue with the Venkman may be that it is Murray post Ghostbusters...probably closer to GB 2 based upon having a fatter face than he did in GB1 but there is no doubt that it is Murray unless you are trying really hard (maybe because you didn't order the figures so deciding that they are bad is needed validation for your decision) not to see Murray.

You reminded me of something funny. There was a gentleman in one of the Facebook groups who kept berating the Tyler Durden set when it came out. Kept trashing it on a daily basis, yet kept justifying it by saying he had it preordered just because “he really likes the movie”. Long story short, he never preordered it, and when confronted multiple times to produce pics, he actually posted a pic he found randomly either on here, or somewhere else online. Almost 20 or so years in the hobby, and I’m still blown away by the grand machinations some folks will come up with over collectibles. Lol.

Well, the elephant in the room that people never seem to take into account in these discussions (esp with a fig like Durden) is that some have spent $$$ on customs of a certain character, so it's in their financial interest to berate a new company release that can probably be had for hundreds of dollars less than the custom - given that many custom figs like Durden would be $200+ for the painted headsculpt alone, then many hundreds more for custom-made outfits.

It's kind of a dance you see on here - one minute there's no chance a certain character or character group will ever be a licensed (or even unlicensed) figure, so people pay huge bucks for custom heads, paint, outfit and accessories, next minute it's announced and people are in damage control. The natural instinct is to say "meh... not great."

The curve ball with GB is that Matty did a pretty good job on the outfit, so people had a leg-up, so probably more people than normal spent those bucks on custom heads - then boom, in comes the BW announcement and you got a Detolf full of GB figs you already shelled out $1000 or so to get (assuming maybe $70 for a custom head and $150 for top-level painter, plus other stuff like custom Slimer and elbow pads.)

For me, all I have is a Matty Venkman (which I think I got for under $50) an Industry Slimer ($30) and a half dozen of the 6" Matty figs but I can see if I had invested that $1000 on the four custom guys and a Slimer etc., I'd be asking myself: what do I do? Can't sell 'em now with BW in the mix, so I either stick with what I have or "double-buy" the guys for another $1000 and toss the $$$ customs in the proverbial "storage" trash.

All good options. I know some individuals spent $1500+ on the RainMan Durden when he initially did a run on them a ways back. The tailoring was decent, but the sculpts had much to be desired. I saw many people trying to offload them unsuccessfully on eBay and in the BST groups once BW released their run. Many of them got very salty as well. However I couldn’t blame some of them for being that way, because lots of people were attacking them left and right, telling them what a travesty the figures were and how they flushed their money away. I guess you can only take so much.
