Youre going to sit here and tell me there is absolutely NO room for improvement on Boromir? That's the best they can do?

If you say Yes, you're a liar.

How's the musty smell of sitting under Asmus' nutsack?

Quit being the companies apologist. They have room to be better. The figures *can* be better. They are so close.

Look at the track record. 8 figures in. 7 of which have pretty poor liknesses. 6 of which are already out the gate and released. 4 of which have already been confirmed by Asmus to be getting new sculpts (the Hobbits). Then there's the haired Aragorn. And now Asmus is considering releasing the sculpted haired Gandalf. And there's still the Gandalf the white sculpt we havent seen.

Legolas, Boromir and Gimli left. Are we going to see an expansion set for Legolas with rooted hair too? Or an updated Boromir sculpt after this ones released instead of fixing it now?

Holy hell man. Why in gods name are you doing business with such a poor company. Just by reading your post and seeing all the negativity in it I'm shocked that you could lower your standards so much to collect such a shoddy product. Seriously, if you believe everything you posted in this post then why are you collecting this line? You're like a Walking Dead viewer. *****, and *****, and ***** about how bad the show sucks. But you make sure you tune in every Sunday night.

As I said. This is what sprung to my mind this morning. As you look at the post I said I'm starting to *wonder*. Their weird choices in sculpts then to release upgraded ones later doesn't really make sense when you have excellent sculpts of these characters from the get go.

Am I not mistaken that the general consesus on this board was the original GtG sculpt was a home run? Then they went with something else entirely? Why not include both sculpts from the get go?

And alot of the other sculpts may not be what I want or consider good, but I'm not the only one complaining. If you take your blinders off you might notice.

My blinders are off. You could probably find a few posts from me in every Asmus product thread of me giving constructive criticism on something I think could be improved on. I even said today that I thought the paint was throwing off the Boromir sculpt. But as I already stated, it's another thing to accuse a company of sabotaging their product just so they can make money off of you later. Nice joke about the nut sack also. I'm sure Asmus appreciated it as well.

You really need to take your blinders off Hoodonit. If you've read all my posts. I'm a fan. I'm a passionate collector and I want a Fellowship on my self.

Do you see another company doing LOTR figures? No? Well holy ****. I guess I don't have much options do I? And for the most part I love what they are doing. With the exception of the likeness. I'm not the only one that has voiced this. Their likeness need work. If I have I'll pick up the 9 and hopefully wait for better sculpts either by Asmus or from custom artists out there to fill the void. Asmus tailoring is great. I love their diorama bases. And the diecast weapons. My issue is with their weird choices of the sculpts. I gave them the benefit of the doubt with Merry and Pippin, even let it go on Gandalf, Sam and Frodo we're frustrating pill to swallow, Legolas is decent then Boromir hit and I just don't get it? It makes me question there methods. Sorry if that offends you oh so much!

Can we keep it civil, guys?
From my POV Asmus may have done some bad creative team choices but I don't believe in a conspiracy. Sculpts in this hobby are the most subjective thing I've seen discussed.
A) First of all you can't compare digital rending/unpainted sculpts to real thing because your mind is filling the gap but the gap can be filled in a complete different way. I'm thinking about ACI Aragorn: digital render was good (not spot on IMHO, but someone would say it was), final product was only decent because of the crazy eye positioning and flattering skintone.
B) Even paintend sculpts can be perceived differently. I've seen people praising SSC last two UGLY Luke Skywalker, or blaiming the loss of likeness of some other sculpts to the proto-production passage, when there are only minor differences. For example, I personally don't think the other Sam sculpt that was posted here was better than the one we actually got.

Where'd the likeness go?

Moving on from some of the "discussion" going on, I'd like to continue my thanks to you Asmus for having a voice on here, even when it is not always easy. I'll not pretend I haven't voiced negative comments but I would like to believe I have tried to remain civil :/

I would like to preorder Boromir but I'm hoping for both head sculpts. Will you be making the individual head sculpt available as you did with Aragorn?
At the moment I'm not really thrilled with either sculpt so I'd like to have both so I can pick and choose which I like the most when it arrives.
Someone else ordered two figures to own both sculpts but I can't afford two of the same figure. I'd much rather have two sculpts for one figure. Please let me know your plans so I can preorder before it's too late. Thanks again for being vocal on the forum.

At last we have a company who tries to fix some problems by giving us the option to buy extra packs with new heads and accessories for a very good price and people try to turn it into a freakin' conspiracy. Why do you think people buy recasts of the last version of a figure to update the old one they have? Or buy custom headsculpts on sites like OSK or from private commissions? Because other companies like Sideshow, ThreeZero and even The Holy Hot Toys regularly miss something and don't give a ****** about fixing it.

I don't feel obligated to buy the new Merry & Pippin heads because i really like the originals, but i'm happy for those who like the option.

As for Boromir, i gladly PO'ed it because it's 100 times better then my crappy Sideshow version. Only thing i'd like to see changed is the paint to make his beard and eyebrows thicker.

As stated by SithThundercracker, the main differences between the 3D and the prototype are lower hairline, a bit of something with the shape of the eyes (or maybe just a matter of paint app) and thicker beard. Minor changes for huge likeness improvement...

keep doing what your doing asmus, the vast majority of us appreciate your participation and dedication to this line, please don't let the very loud (and rude) minority get to you

A few comments.

Everyone is free to have their own opinions but from what I have seen they originally planned on sculpted all the time for Aragorn and their are a decent amount of people that prefer sculpted because we lack the futzing skills of messing with rooted or some think rooted looks to doll like. They tried rooted with when sculpted would have hindered articulation but even then they seemed to be torn between going with rooted or sculpted hair. As far as figure sales and the fan base I don't think it's as large a 1/6 fan base as you think it is. I remember then saying that the Witch King and Gandalf the White did not sell like they had thought also if their was a large audience Sudeshiw would have kept their line going. At the time of their release Sideshows Gandalf, Frodo and Sam were good figures probably some of the best sculpts Sideshow had ever done. I think they offer Boromir this way to try to please both side of the root vs sculpted argument which I think was ProActive of them.

I do not remember seeing that Sam sculpt before and while the shape of the face does from that one shot appear better there seems to be something a little off about it too, maybe around the mouth area. I cannot read their minds but so far the hobbits are the only ones that are getting new sculpts so I do not think their busdiness plan is to put of weaker figures followed up by the ones everyone wants. Also look at Hot Toys some Ironmans come with the full headsculpt of Tony Stark and some come with just the headsculpt in the helmet with the face plate up and for Ant Man the first figure had no head sculpt of the actor and the second did so you could argue that they way Hot Toys does things forces you to get more than one release to complete a figure that should have come with everything the first time.

That is not Sean Bean.

Positive criticism:

Lower the hairline and add some finer strands
Widen the nose
Adjust the jawline to make it rounder
Ginger up his hair and goatee a bit

However, what gets me the most is the incorrectly positioned broach. If you are taking high quality promo shots, then accuracy to accessories is important, I feel.

It's in the details.

I ended up going with the sculpted head as I don't have to worry about futzing with the rooted hair. It is exciting to finally get so close to having the Fellowship complete.

I'll pick up the rooted hair version shortly. I'm not sure what happened with the likeness between the digital sculpt and this final. It could be the paint job, the lighting in the photo, or minor distortion during production (the forehead seems taller and the cheeks seem softer). The nose is also too narrow but it was that way in the digital sculpt. At any rate at least it's a great starting point. If necessarily I'll have it tweaked in the secondary.

The more I look at the figures, the less I mind the likeness. :monkey3 I think the rooted hair one looks the best. I'm sure Asmus will alter it slightly to make it look more like Sean Bean.

Asmus, instead of having to chose between the rooted or sculpted version, is it possible to buy the head separately like with the new Aragorn rooted hair version? I'd prefer an option to buy the Boromir sculpted version, and then add just the rooted hair sculpt without having to buy the whole figure. At least then I can make the decision which to use after assessing them in hand side by side with my own eyes?
