On the positive side the choice of music was a nice nod to the spaghetti westerns that inspired the first book. I liked the narration from Roland with the familiar passage from the book. Matthew McConaughey resembles the man in black as I imagined him when reading the series and I feel confident that he will own the part.

That said, I do hope the trailer is deliberately misleading us into believing that Jake is the main character / focus of this film otherwise that is a disappointing departure from the book. I am also getting a matrix / narnia (kid friendly) vibe from the trailer and that worries me. I really hope the actual film has more of a classic western feel to it and grown up tone. If they are cutting the trailer deliberately to appeal to more people then fine but if these concessions are actually reflected in the movie then it will be a shame.

I am glad the film is being made but the trailer has not really eased any of my concerns surrounding this movie.

Roland does do the finger tip loading thing in the trailer. It goes by quick, so it's easy to miss. He's basically flicking bullets in the revolver's cylinder.

Honestly not feeling it... this is one of my favorite book series and I've been looking forward to the adaptation. But this looked like they just retained the characters and settings, yet changed everything else. As others have said it felt more like a Matrix than I'd have liked.

Still, I'll see it and hope for the best.

Ugg speedloaders...

Yeah, that was a bad start to the trailer for me.

Yeah well...
Doesn't seem to have much in common with the books, does it? Or am I remembering them wrong?

I saw bits from the book, but it was a bit hard to tell and definitely things that would have been in later books are in here. I thought they settled on this being based off of the first book, but maybe not :lol

Yeah, I saw that... so not sure why they'd add the speed loaders as well? That was not something I ever recall him having in the book.

That was my favorite part of the trailer. I'm not getting my hopes up for the film though.

The movie is supposed to be a sequel to the books. If you know how the books end, then let's just say Roland starts off the film with the horn of eld.

I was just about to post that... I avoid spoilers and a lot of information about movies I'm going to watch, but I needed to know why this seemed so different. And like you said it's a continuation.

Knowing this will not be based on the books allows me to relax a bit based on what I've seen. Having said that, this still doesn't look that good... but I'll keep an open mind.

I think it looks cool, but trailers can be deceiving. I like the casting choices based on the little I've seen. Apparently, in Jake's psychiatrist's office, the trailer shows a framed picture of the Overlook Hotel from Kubrick's The Shining. Nice touch.

Are elbow-rubbing, nostalgia geek baits nice touches anymore? I mean they all do it.

This could've been the next Game of Thrones, but like others have said, it looks more like Matrix/Narnia/Last Action Hero.

Having said that, as an action blockbuster vaguely based on something, it looks ok? I can't say I'm let down since we knew who was involved in it from the get go, plus the majority of adaptations of King's work are mediocre, so I can't really say I'm disappointed.

If this bombs, which I'm guessing it probably will, I'll feel bad for Elba, he was a good casting choice.

With any luck this will be Carrie-remake level, so, not terrible, rather pointless but not terrible, that's the best we can hope for.

I wish I knew what to think of this trailer. I have read this entire series and I was very much looking forward to a film series adaptation or series on HBO. But this....it just doesn't feel right. Besides the music cue, there is no western vibe to this at all. Like others have said, it has the Matrix vibe which is all wrong. Plus, I'm sure it will be PG-13 which again is all wrong for this series. I know adapting this for a broad audience is a difficult task, but I don't think this series lends itself to a wide audience and remain faithful to the story. It would have made for a compelling mature series on HBO. There are ways to make it without a giant budget.

I will obviously still see it as soon as I am able to, just trying to talk myself into having an open mind about it.

Very cool - also a shot of an abandoned circus advertising Pennywise the Clown. The King-verse references are a welcome surprise for a cinematic DT.

Even though he's described as looking like Clint Eastwood as "The Man With No Name" I always saw Roland as more of a native Australian Aboriginal.

It's garbage casting. He doesn't look anything like Roland for Christ's sake.

I think Elba is an awesome actor, but he doesn't look like Roland at all.

I feel like I stepped into the friggin Twilight Zone. Has everyone lost their minds?

Not really feeling the trailer. I only read the first book in the series but this didn't really give me any real connection to that.
