Re: Molecule8 (New company)

There's that word again -- soon!

I'm starting to hate that word. Or I will hate it.... soon.

Sorry, but getting four people together for a podcast who are located in four different countries requires some effort. We're shooting for May 21st if I can get the planets to align - does that make you feel better? I'll be talking to Vijay on the phone tonight, and I'll have better info then.

BTW, we'll also be asking the group for input on questions.

That wasn't a dig on you, don't be so sensitive. It was a dig on the Molecule8 proto reveal "soon"... you were unfortunately the next "soon" after that so I used that as the joke.

I have no questions for Molecule8.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

Yeah right....Willy Wonka's hat, cane, and purple jacket will be exclusive to the molecule8 site. It's that "different way of doing things" they are becoming known for.

Willy Wonka with a rubber skin covered titanium alloy endoskeleton??? :drool

We at The Hottoycast are very excited to have Molecule8 coming on the show for an extensive interview. If you have any questions about their process or upcoming figures, please post your questions below.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

I chatted with Vijay last night - interesting guy, very passionate about what they are doing. As you can see from Eamon's post, we're putting together our list of questions right now. I'm structuring the questions around 5 areas - background info, the Lennon figure, the Endo body, the other licenses, and then general company questions. If you have anything specific, just let us know.

They seem to have the licence for The Lord of the Rings figures.
With Asmus releasing almost all the Fellowship of the Ring characters, what's the Molecule8 plan for the licence? Will they rerelease different/better versions of Gandalf, Aragorn etc?

When will the podcast take place?

I would like to know what their goals are for the 1/4 scale line and how they choose what license gets made in that scale. I also would like to know if they are planning multiple characters from the franchises like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc. And will they be a different scale than the figures released previously by other companies?

Only interested in LOTR figures, myself, so I echo Wilian_C_B's questions.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

It would be nice to know if long term non-museum poses are going to be an issue with whatever substance they are going to apply over their armatures. I think it's a common issue with Phicen figures and recently Storm had issues with their Mike Tyson (I think) figure and ended up sending out replacement arms.

And if it is silicone based, how will they prevent staining like what is happening with the Hot Toys Joker Coat.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

I like that one Earthdog - hadn't thought of it myself, but yea, it's a great question.

Yeah I think it is a spectacular one to ask. Considering that we have all seen oil leaks, rotting, etc from older Hot Toys figures, will we have rotting head sculpts with the silicon over time or is it a processed material? I find the thought of deteriorating head sculpts scary.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

1. Can you speak about the future Jack Burton figure? Who is sculpting it?
2. How did you get the rights to DeNiro for Taxi Driver?

It's an excellent question, but let's be honest here I think we all know what the Molecule8 answer will be and I can guarantee that it will include references to how "unlike every other figure that we have seen" their figures will be. Not trying to give M8 a hard time but I can see this answer coming a mile away. In fact if they say "we are a new company and we are not sure about that yet..." I will pre-order Lennon on the spot just based upon honesty inspired confidence in them!

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

Thanks guys, I think how they answer it will be telling. I'd like to find out what they've learned (if anything) from production issues that other companies have faced and how they are planning to prevent these, if it's even possible.

I'd be surprised if we got more than a stock "blah blah blah quality control" PR answer. What I'm hoping for is an insightful conversation digging into the nuts and bolts of the material selections, paint process, production line and product testing.

My underlying point is that if you are going to charge a premium price in an already too expensive hobby then potential customers should have some kind of assurance that your product warrants the increased cost and will not suffer from known issues.
