I still am completely baffled by SSC's plan on any of this. They are missing huge opportunities and seem to have learned nothing about production or turn around despite years and years of experience. That of course is saying nothing about their pricing dynamic or QC but if they were to consistently offer products on the level of the new Maul but with value in terms of overall price, accessory load out, and shipping, then no one would be saying "wait for HT" but they sowed their own state of affairs time and again.

I agree. They were very successful with their Clone Wars line of figures and I'm amazed at what some of them go for on the aftermarket. If anything, I'm surprised they didn't jump on the "Rebels" license and do the same since HT only does the movies. I'm sure people would want several realisitc looking characters since it now crosses back over to the "Clone Wars" series. An Ahsoka would be a sure sell out if they kept up the quality of what they are doing now, and can keep prices reasonable.

SSC probably makes as much selling HT figures - maybe their line of thought it "why bother?" on things that aren't sure-things.

WRT HT Jawas - who gives a crap. All of HT's SW releases have been mediocre at best except the Stormtrooper and Sandtrooper. The main characters are some of the worst figures HT has ever released (not including Leia's sculpt). Some of them have been pretty good for parting out though - I have 3 ANH Luke boxes here to attest to that (the body was the only thing truly salvageable, but I begrudgingly also kept one set of accessories).

I would argue the helmet sculpt on the HT stormie is mediocre, the sandie is better, but still far from nailed.

The figures have accuracy issues top to bottom, but they're the two best overall by a wide margin, IMO. BTW, if you want nice green bubble lenses on a bucket, grab the Spacetrooper, his helmet is the only one that has them.

The ANH line is no worse than anything else HT have put out. Their strike-rate on human figures especially doesn't warrant all the adulation they get imo. Took them how many attempts before they got IM RDJ's likeness down and they never really managed TDK Ledger. On the other hand, their bodies are typically pretty good and their price-point reasonable enough. HT jawas wouldn't have crap bodies and they wouldn't have a wtf price tag.

What can be done to stiffen up the joints to make the Jawas be able to stand even with the base? Thanks, any tips would be appreciated...

Haven't done it myself but I believe a few folks here have added a tiny amount of superglue to the joint and then slowly moved the joint around as the glue dries. Seems like it could work. I have 4 jawas and they are just carefully posed with some being supported with tatooine-ish rocks that I added to the display. Else cocoboloboy here on the forums makes stands that blend very nice and proper with the jawas.

Hey TFH. I've been on and off about these Jawas for a long time. Mainly due to the cost for what you get. i.e loose joints etc

Would love to see your set, as I was also thinking a Tatooine type setup.

Got these guys some time back using the $50 off offer but only now got to set them up, so here's my review. Below is a quick phone pic with my first hood attempts - this is them pretty much from the box with hoods fitted, not much futzing other than to show the under robes.

I'd pretty much concur with what others have said - they are really quite nice figures on the shelf yet the bodies are a let down. The issue is that everything from the "stand" (aka Hasbro 4" figure stand - boo, Sideshow) to the attachment of the hands to the light-up eyes hinges on some rigidity from the body. My bodies definitely aren't terrible in terms of floppiness, but they feel like slightly loose, fairly crudely articulated bodies from 5-7 years ago... which is exactly what they are. Shame on Sideshow for doing that on a new $220 release.

The fabric on the robes actually poses very well - it has the delicate drape and feeling of weight of the movie costume that the hasbro and other custom robes have never had for me, even though the SSC weave isn't a match for the movie costume (and the hasbro and custom ones were closer in that regard.) You can get a lot of delicate creasing if you want to spend the time, and the under robes are equally nice.

As far as I can tell, the hoods work well with one "option" (the Jawa on the right) with a fair amount of variability but not so much in the other "option" (Jawa on left) - I'm just not sure the hood cut-sew is as reversible as Sideshow's instructions seem to think it is, and I really couldn't achieve what they showed in their pics.

I will say though the accessories are absolutely superb - the holster, power pack and bandoliers are at HT level or maybe even better, just so intricately made (my pic doesn't show the holster/pack.) The guns are nice too but maybe feel a touch underscaled, they are children holding adult-scale weapons in the movie, which seems to be a problem with some recent Sideshow weapons (the "noisy cricket" pistol that the Biker Scout came with for example.)

I'll probably add some weathering to them as it's quite subtly done (it's more than what showed up in the pic) and the ones in the movie look like they had a beige paint fight as well as kicking dust all over each other. I may post a follow-up pic when I've had a chance to futz them more.

That's a pretty accurate review. For all the issues I still love them. I swapped the 'big gun"over to the little guy. Felt more appropriate.

These guys have their charm. These were the three basic hood looks I could get. The tendrils aren't great but the versatility of the hood itself is kind of cool.

Yeah, if I can get them cheap, I would consider getting another two. I need a bunch of Jawas (two for Jabba dio, one for "hero" SW display, one for with an R5.)

I'm probably going to strip down a Jawa and try the superglue joint tightening thing on the body.

Are the two on the left have the same "side" of the hood facing forward?

One side seems to have a nice thin "edge" to the hood itself, the other is kind of fat and rolled/rounded and doesn't seem to be able to be teased thin.

In my pic above the one on the left has the rolled/fat front edge - I tried to roll out the lower part like they show in the pic, but it just won't sit the way the pic shows. I think I'll just tighten it like you have it in your right-most Jawa.

I have two custom ones the solo bones made for me. I would not mind trying to get two more down the road.

Yeah, still mulling getting that custom robe, as well as doing a custom one on my own based on the Hasbro robes and head - I've made most of it. I just couldn't face making several custom Jawas - too much of a pain.

Yeah, two on left are the same, just tighter in the middle. In the instructions they would resemble the look on the left. Then the other style on the right is when it's flipped around.

yeah they look like a difficult project finding small bodies to work with and the electronics to figure out
