I chose to leave the armor over the tunic. I just couldn't stand the pleats over the armor. It looked too thick and just not right. This is my "post ANH/pre-Empire" Vader.

Nice way to think of it. To me that's how it looks best. It was designed that way after all. I'll do something similar once in a while, which is to have the ESB belt and chest box, but obviously with the helmet it's still not fully ANH, so I'll tell myself to think of it the way you are.

Good way of looking at it for those who are leaving the tunic under the armor, which seems to be most people.

:lol

It's funny how many comments have been like "This is my ESB Vader until ESB Vader shows up." It's going to be interesting to see if "Rogue One Vader" will become it's own legit Vader look going forward or if people will always stick to the "ANH-look" and ESB/ROTJ-look" Vaders as the key looks (with "ROTS-look" something people choose not to talk about.)

I think he's in it way too briefly to be a look that will be remembered. If anything it will be remembered for the fact that they bungled it by going for a different look from ANH (what HT basically gave us) when the movie was supposed to be directly preceding ANH, so it seems they went back and did reshoots to correct some of that.

:exactly:

If one wants a true representation of R1 Vader, I don't see why they wouldn't put the tunic over the armor. However, it seems apparently that most people aren't and are essentially using this figure as a proxy for ESB Vader until the actual ESB Vader gets made. Or they just want a representation of Vader in general, regardless of what particular film it conforms to, and prefer the tunic under the armor look.

Like you said, it will be interesting to see if in the future R1 Vader ever becomes its own unique look among collectors.

Anyone parting this figure out? I would love to buy the gloves along with a million other people.:)

Toy Anxiety parted out a number (three I think) but they aren't sure they'll be getting any more. The glove hands literally went in a couple of minutes both times they parted a RO Vader, even despite the fact they were at least $5 each (which is more than any other 1/6 hand has been on TA in my memory.)

Also, with red-hot items, TA does tend to raise prices a bit on the second and third part-outs (which is fine, as they do drop the price on slower selling parts) so it's possible if they do part out one or two more Vaders the hands might be closer to $6-7 on the most in-demand hands - e.g. fists tend to be the least desirable, grips most desirable.

The left fist is very desirable so people can display Vader as he was tossing the rebel trooper against the ceiling. I think the relaxed hands or hands on his belt are the least desirable.

I'm still looking for a Rogue One Vader right hand, any one of them. I have Rogue One Vader lefts if anyone want's to trade one for one. Send me a PM!

Yeah, I meant in general fists are the least desirable (TA is literally jammed with unsold fists - I think SSC clone fists are like 10-25 cents:lol,) but RO certainly made good use of the raised Vader fist.

TA seems to be making it clear they won't be getting any more RO Vaders. Maybe if HT does another run of them (which I think is actually highly likely,) they'll order a lot more. RO Vader parts have completely sold out faster on TA than any figure I've ever seen, and those hands - like in literally two minutes, all of them.:horror

If anyone really wants the hands just look for a good deal on the full figure. The rest of the stuff will sell parted out (especially if you don't need all the hands), plus you might decide you like some of those other parts too.

A few shots from today

To me, the Rogue One Vader stands on its own as much as Boba Fett in ESB or ROTJ. He was absolutely amazing in this film...and I don't care about how long he was on screen, he was as menacing as ever. Effective use of time!

I have a mashed up HT ANH helmet on a ROTJ SS body and love it.

But I want to collect a 1/4 scale and would be very tempted by an ESB sixth scale. It is my fav film and iteration of Vader.

Got my Vader today. Extremely awesome presence ! Now I know why everyone's been going on about the cape ! Amazing material.

Here's a quick first snap. Mashup pose of Rogue One lightsaber ignition and classic ANH Stormtrooper background.

I've read most of this thread, but can't recall anyone say anything about the pleats on the under robe. On mine on the left side the stitching of the last pleat is back to front leading to an unnatural fold. You can see it a bit on the pic.

It's not hard to hide, but still a bit of a pain. Or is it supposed to be like that ??

Any online stores still selling this figure outside of ebay?
I ordered mine from Popcultcha the other night. They're charging approximately $270 before shipping.
