I don't get it...why remove the autobot sigil? I mean...they've already thrown out respect to trademark and licensing. They're not even generic robots...they're friggin bee and hot rod...so by removing the autobot label all of a sudden they're NOT recognizable??

Logos, symbols, etc can be trademarked. This makes their IP rights fairly rock solid and easily actionable. Maintaining rights of a specific character design is a lot trickier. I do believe character designs would have to fall under "copyright" which can only cover "the form or manner in which they are expressed". It does not cover the ideas themselves. You can't for example copyright the concept of transforming robots.

I think what that means is you can copyright a truck that is red and blue and turns into a robot that is named Optimus Prime/Convoy but you can't copyright all trucks that transform into robots. I also think that the many forms Optimus Prime and various other named Transformer characters have taken over the years dilutes possible claims on copyright.

At least that's what I have gathered based on my very limited knowledge of IP law. Basically I knew a copyright expert for a year or so back at my last job and that and any research I have done on my own is all I got so take all of that with a slab of rock salt. I may very well not know what I'm talking about.

From Jez at TFW2005: cartoon model, Takara-Tomy Megatron, x-Transbots' Apollyon. I think Megatron may be some of Takara-Tomy's best Masterpiece work yet.

Yeah, Megatron is a mazingly accurate. Makes me wonder if we'll see a v3 Optimus soon though, since he does not look like he fits with MP10 at all. I do miss the era of toon/toy mix that Hasui was all about, but hey at least 3rd parties are continuining that.

I just hope we also get a silver/black version with non-toon Con symbool soon, too. Don't really care for the grey.

Me too! With Inferno & Grapple they're obviously trying to do a two-for-one deal that gives buyers the option of chrome or a more 'toon look (of course the whole robot aesthetic skews 'toon simplicity but I digress); with a character like Megatron where the whole figure needs a different paint treatment, I'd like nothing more than to see them list the Anime+ version & silver/black version for pre-order simultaneously (one being a Mall Exclusive). I don't wantt to pass on this Anime+ version based solely on speculation we'll get a silver/black version down the road, especially since there's no precedent yet for Takara-Tomy doing such a thing (if they announced a deep metallic purple & chrome Shockwave I'd be more confident).

Re: All things transformers!!!!

Of the third party, Mightron looks the best to me. The legs are just too blocky though
Shows how varied everyone's opinions on these things are; next to MP-10, I thought Mightron easily looked the most ridiculous; his legs seem at least 1/3 too small for his upper body.

Courtesy of Daim choc on fb.

TT is certainly on another level.

Its certainly growing on me however, claiming its on another level is wide of the mark imo. I still prefer the beefier Despotron design. Its close though. The cartoon aesthetic is great.

Edit: Apollyon was so close just the QC that let it down

Opinions please guys. Just added FT Sludge to the set. Always loved the original G1 comic art so ive tried to recreate it using a combination of Fanstoys, Gigapower and the KO Grimlock. Obviously FT and GP are scaled differently but does this work?

Spread Swoop's wings a bit more. Looks like his lazily flying. Other than that, looks good

Looks fantastic! Only thing that would be a bit better was if Slag was taller - Giga's Grassor will fit in nicely there.

Thanks a Reinhardt yeah I was debating that but then GP Slag would probably end up tower over FT Sludge...

Cheers yeah I'll try it. Bit limited with space up there though :/

Whether your prefer the others or not, you gotta admit the Takara-Tomy figure is certainly the most unique of the bunch.

Somebody did a split-screen of Takara's figure and the cartoon model. Hard to argue with this!

Agreed that looks amazingly show accurate. What we have is a Megs catering for everyone's taste; from show accurate to comic book and everything in between :)

Final look. I added a couple of strategically placed stickers around Sludge's neck to breakth the silver up
