I have decided to make Hot Toys my 1/6 scale figure company of choice. SideShow has my money locked up with their statues.

Yup, so from now on it's just Hot Toys and SideShow for me.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

i was going thru all my collection to sell. and id hit a box full of mint star wars figures or something like that. my mantra was" you want pirates? or this crap? lol so it really helped me throw ALOT to the selling bin! only "gotta haves" nuthin else!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Yup.. I wanna sell a bunch of my stuff as well so I can buy nummy Hot Toys figures and SideShow statues. Only cream of the crop for me!

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I just picked up a loose V1 Jack Sparrow coat, solving my quandery on which version of Jack to purchase (Cannibal King all the way).

There isn't anything else that the V1 came with that he V2 does not other than the coat, the tricorn hat and the differing head sculpt, right?

That's the tack I'm taking as well. I no longer have to lurk about the toy isles in Target or Wal-Mart searching for mediocre mass market plastic. It's actually quite liberating.:blissy

The new shots of Davy Jones make him appear a bit stiff, I'm not sure I like that. So, quick question; if you could only have V1 Jack Sparrow or Davy Jones, which would you choose?

If you have NO Jack Sparrow already, Jack, if you have a Jack Sparrow, then Davy.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Ugh...toy snobs....

I'm all about feeling superior:cool:.

Of course your signature is so elitest I had to google Stanley Tweedle, something I'm not proud of...:google

Yes I have no Sparow. I was leaning that way, due to the unforseen I cancelled my pre-order of Jones (but I'm keeping the 12" Indiana Jones come hell or highwater!). My LCS can order V1 Jack and hold it at a decent price so there's no pressure. I might do the same with Davy Jones down the line after I read reactions of those braver than I who buy it now. I'm wondering how the rubber suit will affect the piece; I like articulation in my figures!

Don't get me wrong, I love Hot toys, but i love your run of the mill toys as well. I'm open to all formats and all price ranges

Well, as soon as I get Davy, he'll be put to the posing test for my pictures, so you'll know in a few weeks. I'm sure he'll be limited, it's just the nature of the way he's constructed, but I think the poses that will be achievable will be just fine.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Do you think that fabric clothing would have reduced the overall effect of the figure? I'm assuming they went with the plastic/rubber route to achieve a constant "wet" look, but how bad would cloth look if it had the correct flourishes and sculpted items attached? Even with a peg leg and claw arm, I'm thinking they could have still produced a very well articulated piece; one not retricted by stiff outer garments.

The decision to not get Davy Jones right away was not an easy one, I still say he's one of the best designed movie villians.

My take on the use of the PVC instead of cloth is the level of detail. If you glued all of that stuff to a cloth piece, eventually glue would give out or you'd pose him and pieces would fall off. I think they did what they did for materials because it was the best way to achieve the look of his clothes in a way that holds up with time. As much as they are trying to make poseable figures, first and foremost goal of any of the 1/6 makers like Sideshow, HT and Medi, is the overall look of the piece. Sometimes articulation is sacrificed for the better look and sometimes the better look sacrificed for articulation. I'd rather have a more statuesque Davy that's very impressive in its visual appearance than a lesser Jones that can be posed more ways.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Finally opened up Will last night....the coloring change in neck to head is drastic. I can't believe the coloring.....over all the figure looks great not much fuss and looks okay next to Liz and Jack, slightly taller than him and about half a head taller than Liz. My wife loved the sculpt. I'm okay with passing on Jones for now but in reality my excitement of the TDK and IM licenses on the horizon has really taken the wind out of my POTC sails...

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I've got Will on preorder right now, but he will be my last piece in my POTC collection. Have no interest in Davy at all.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

I had Will on order from Toys2. I actually received him on April 24th but due to a hectic schedule I didn't open him up until last night.

Re: Official Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean Thread

Thanks Mike, Will's like 5 days overdue for shipping from SSC so I was just curious if you got him from there or not. Same thing happened a couple weeks ago with HT's AVPR stuff, seems HT figures aren't getting to the warehouse on time lately, so it's possible Will and Davy won't ship until a week after they're supposed to.
