Having the shadow of the brim fall over the eyes seems to be essential in order to maintain an illusion of Ford.

You're dead right... The tilt makes a difference... Mine still looks goofy with the hat up...

That looks really good, small studios.

The paint brings out the Ford in the sculpt.

Looking between that and the recast I can't see any actual differences in the structure itself, except for maybe the ears which seem to stick out further. Which would be an odd result of the recasting process.

The eyes suffer from being too dark on the recast, which is highlighted by flash photography, but on display is rectified by the shade created by the fedora brim.

I couldn't take a photo without flash, so I took it from above the eye line:

The sculpt is definitely growing on me, but it took a while to get over the initial shock of the size difference since that figure has always either had the smaller original sculpt and then the same sized SS TOD.

The difference is a bit like the jump from the MMS136 Terminator to the DX13 Terminator 2.

It helped raising the head up off the neck. The white tack didn't hold the position well enough - after a while the head would start to drop forwards. So I cut up a pen top and placed it over the ball inside the neck of the body, packed both ends with white tack and placed the sculpt over that.

The problem with sculpting Ford, and keeping in mind what he looks like, seems to be that his face changes quite radically as he runs through a gamut of expressions:

The still of Indy the Professor reminds me of the DX05 with the frowning, quizzical look and overall more pronounced features.

Kuat is totally right.

Harrison ford, throughout the Indy movies, changed a lot. Some changes are due to different facial expressions, some others due to him being sick during filming, change of weight, different beard, hair, between locations...

I tried to find pics where Indy's face looks the most like the MJ Choi headsculpt or the recast. This is what I found:

I'll have to see how I'm fixed next week, if there are any left and I won't be left short after other stuff then I might just get one.

EDIT:

Raided (no pun intended) my savings and got one anyway. It's about time I made serious inroads into getting him finished at last!

I see, well, I'll definitely be looking long and hard at mine in natural light when it arrives. I try as much as I can to take pics in natural light.

Yeah, it looks good from that angle, but does it from others!? That's where I think the difficulty with most sculpts lies. It can look completely different to how we expect when we see it in living 3D as opposed to flat pics. I remember being really disappointed with the original SSC sculpt when I first saw it in hand, but, then repaints started turning up and then I repainted mine and I appreciated it a whole lot more.

I wasn't keen on the MJ till I saw Rahmier's paint ups. Ok the recast isn't on a par with that, but, it's a load better than I could manage myself. I'll see how I feel when I get mine, I might do some touch ups and recolouring, I might not.

No, it doesn't look particularly good from any other angle - hence why this is the only one we're seeing now! I still don't like the TOD sculpt, re-paint or not. Too small, too puffy, horrible hair-split, not enough HF in it for me. Still, at least my old DX05 Fedora is a huge improvement on the SS effort...

I modded my DX05 fedora to look more like the Raiders one, I reshaped and narrowed the pinch and it's another thing that looks better from some angles than others. Still I'm happy with it and it should look good on the new head.

Have to agree to disagree, it's by far the best Indy sculpt going. And this is the only angle you're seeing now as it's the only photo I've posted ;)

Hat is an improvement of course ;)
