I keeping hearing about all the issues with this version, do you think it's better to wait for a new HT version or will it be a long wait?

I am guessing with each addition to the new trilogy Hot Toys will release a line based on the OT. So I would thnk with Episode VIII we would see Empire Figs, but who knows really.
I like the Empire look better, but this is really hard to resist - faults and all.

Seriously, is it worth burning the NRD and just grabbing him elsewhere? Seems unlikely, but what are the chances Sideshow doesn't come through on the Pre-orders?

There is 0% chance sideshow does not come through with a pre-order unless your payment bounces. If you have a pre-order (not a waitlist) you WILL get a figure. So that should not be an issue when deciding to eat a deposit.

This is the best out of the box Vader available with its minor quips....period. The sound function is stupid but how much are you really going to sit there and hit the remote once you get him all setup? Outside of the gloves and fixing the belt, there is nothing really necessary to fix on this figure to look fantastic.

Now, there are people that LOVE to customize him and you are reading many comments from the accuracy folks that want it jumping from the screen accurate. (Nothing wrong with that) For someone that is a lover of Star Wars and Darth Vader that doesn't want to be bothered with the tweaks, this is an awesome Vader. This version is my personal favorite look for him. (ANH)

Once the sound is turned on, it's on permanently and you don't have to remove everything and reset all over again? I've heard both that you do and don't, so I got confused.

My tweak was only going to be the simple put the armor plate over the shoulder sash to get the ESB look.

I think you have to reset it, someone else can chime in on that. I have not even tried the sound on mine. Don't care for it and never will.:)

That's a shame. My guests loved the Robocop and ED-209 sounds, those were at least easier to access so I'd turn it off to save battery juice so I have no clue whether those 2 automatically turn off as well, but it would be a nightmare to constantly take off the clothes just to reset on Vader. Sound effects would've been cool if there was a hole whether the button is.

Thanks. That helps. Glad to know a Pre-order guarantees it. Didn't think that would happen, but stranger things have so just making sure. Emailed SS for some assurance, but no answer.

From what I've heard, after you turn it on and start to use the sound feature you have to turn it off within 15 minutes from the last button press or else you have to remove all the clothing from the torso to reset the sound feature by removing and replacing the batteries in the back.

So just make sure you turn the sound feature off once you're done playing the sounds.

Is the button switchable with the clothes on? Or do you have to remove it?

I decided to re-work the nose plug to have it look a little more accurate, there's a little work needed to get it out but once you remove some of the plastic on the inside it pops out easy.I shortened it and repainted it to look something a little closer to how it should. I also found that putting a wee piece/sheet of white plastic behind the eye lens makes the amber color pop more... I ended up applying a coat of Tamiya Dull coat on the hands to make them less shiny (and then an even smaller coat of Tamiya Gloss). I think it looks better now, as the hands have the same shinyness as the leather gloves. Still having a bit of trouble posing these gauntlets though!
