:rotfl I'm doing my best to resist paying that much, but I think I'll probably give in and buy it

For the last few weeks I've actually been considering selling my mags to purchase other statues with the money. I was on the phone with my wife earlier today and told her what I was thinking and she said "you're not selling him"....I was like ok : |

LOL! Nice! :lol

As someone who paid aftermarket prices for several XM statues like Wolverine, Phoenix, Magneto, Captain America (I paid retail for Black Widow, Hawkeye, Antman), I'm glad prices are coming down. XM Studios make excellent quality statues, and even though they are not perfect, their quality control is far superior than Sideshow's. That said, the hobby cannot sustain these ridiculous prices of $1800 for a Phoenix or $2000 for a Thanos. That's just insane. Overseas flippers just thought they had GOLD with XM Studios and thought every release was going to be as lucrative as Magneto. You couple that with the collectors who didn't want to "miss out" on another potential Magneto and you have the recipe for inflated prices. The problem is, when the majority of the 999 pieces are being purchased by flippers with almost ZERO interest in the statue itself other than to make a few bucks, there's bound to be competition to the bottom. And I think we are seeing prices come down as a result. I'm glad. I'm completely okay with kicking someone back $200 plus USA shipping for an XM statue (around $1100-$1200 total), but I'm no longer paying someone $500-1000 per statue (over retail price) plus shipping. Those days are over for me. I'm over the hype. I still have like 6 XM studios statues preorder and I'll likely follow through cause I'm paying on average $1300 per piece delivered, but even at that price I'm almost 100% I'm over paying. Be patient guys...prices are coming down for sure. Except for a couple of select pieces like Magneto. I don't see it coming down below $2500.

Yes I agree I paid double for all mine aftermarket. Done with that now. If it's a little more it's ok but not double. I'm happy with what I got from the ones I missed. But from now on it won't be that much anymore. That was from me coming in a year or more after I started XM. Prices are now more so dropping on all new releases and flippers can't get rid of many of them like Hawkeye, and antman, for the mark ups they are now asking. I'm sure it will be the same for many of the cool B characters coming out soon.

The XM Magneto was the perfect storm. Collectors were begging for a 1/4 scale version, it's a great concept, low ES, and top notch paint/QC. It changed the hobby landscape. Now your seeing more and more competition for the dollar so collections are becoming tight on money. If you miss out, wait a month and another company or custom will come along with a version of the character you love.

My post was deleted because I didn't bother to read the Forum's B/S/T Rules

Mags will hold up just fine. The original Doom PF is holding up. So will Mags. I personally think the XM Mags blows the doors off the original Doom PF. There's more original Doom PFs when you factor in the REG and EX editions. Also, there's already a V 2.0 Doom PF released and the OG PF isn't dropping in the aftermarket. Expect the same with XM Mags. Only 800 pieces of that masterpiece were made. Even if SSC releases a Mags I doubt it'll look better than the XM Mags. I truly believe that the demand for the XM mags will always be there along with the high aftermarket prices it's currently commanding. We may see some slight adjustments from time to time but the XM Mags aftermarket price will always be solid.

Mags is already dropping a bit from its highest point, and the surfacing of some pretty good looking recasts is probably partially to blame. The fact is that what many here are saying is true. The landscape of collecting is changing. With more and more companies and more and more customs coming out there is a move away from some of these grails. If you have the money and time you could push for a custom Magneto that could be exactly what you want it to be, and in the end of you did a group commission it wouldn't cost you as much as Mags was going for at its prime. Heck there are already some killer Magnetos already.

Believe or not, part of the reason Magneto is dropping is also because people who own/owned it are losing interest. No one really talks about in public, because perception affects value and no one wants their piece to worth less, but I've spoken to a good many collectors that have become disenchanted with Magneto over time. Myself included. It's beautiful but also doesn't really fit the attitude of Magneto and I was particularly surprised when one day, after months of loving it, I looked at it and felt it was stiff and boring. I still love the sentinel hand but after a month or two of being perplexed by it, I sold it and haven't really missed it at all.

Magneto just beat Lobo PF at the SF Awards, by a mile. You'd expect Lobo to win since it's much more widely available, easy to get and came with a lower price tag... and yet. Truth is that Magneto climbed in price quicker than any other statue has ever had and I don't see any proof of it dropping so much in value - I don't keep track of it but I guess at $2500 it's a quick sale. No other statue has ever sold for that much a year after release. This was selling for 2000 a MONTH after release. XM's situation is unique in this hobby. A lot of people who boast around and only collect grails missed out on this, had to pay inflated prices, there was and there still is a ridicolous amount of butt hurt surrounding XM. Included by those people who constantly talk up grails, grails, grails... all they have done for years has been picking statues and glorify them, everyone who entered this hobby at least 2 years ago has probably heard more about how grail is that usual bunch of statues, yadda yadda. This hobby is full of clowns.
I've lost count of the amount of Doom PFs, Cap PFs, Hulk PFs, Ms Marvel PFs, She Hulk PFs and so on I've seen on sale since prices have started to rise. I got a Venom Comiquette last month and the box had, like, SIX older shipping labels on it. I don't want to think how many times it, and most other "grails", passed hand. Except for a small minority of diehard and rich collectors, to most people no statue will ever worth as much as some of these grails are going for.

To add a point: people are also expecting SS to come up with more X Men and a Magneto but unless things improve between Disney and FOX, it simply won't happen. Give them 6 months - a year to realize that SS is not doing more X Men, and everything X Men related will hike in price again.

Yup. Nothing's is forever. Sooner or later something comes along and you move on as well

Dark Phoenix went up for pre order this week though .....

Bro, this is still selling for $2500 a pop on the cheap end. This piece will hold up just fine. I've seen the custom pieces you are talking about. None of them interest me personally. Regardless of the aftermarket value, I am a HUGE Mags fan and I got the piece I want for my collection.

Means nothing. Sideshow was working on Phoenix years ago already, you can find the artworks for older comiquettes. Not to put down X Men fan, but Sideshow would have NEVER turned to characters from thw Guardians if they could do X men. They're doing Gamora, Cpt Marvel, have confirmed at least a companion piece for Gamora and a cosmic villain. That's four cosmic characters. If they could do X Men, they would, especially with other companies cut off.
This means, everyone bettwr grab tbat Phoenix, lol.

There will always be peeps who buy statues and sell them off for some reason or another. I've done it myself. However, just because you lost interest in Mags doesn't mean the rest of us did and we are keeping silent because we want to protect the aftermarket value of the piece. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best statues ever made and captures the character of Magneto perfectly. I'm not saying this to protect the aftermarket value of the statue. When I look at it, I'm easily just as stunned by it as the 1st day I received it. SSC's Lobo and Skaar PFs give me that same feeling. I can easily lose track of time when I start to admire the details poured into those pieces. For me, they are flat out amazing.
