Well I thought it was a nice handover of the old cast to the new and a fantastic send off for Han that paralleled all that father/son stuff. He was the old guy Obi-Wan was. The extra references may have been a bit much, but that was of course fan service (seems like the best one was the trash compactor), and we all have different tastes about which one we like. While the similarities to IV and retreading that ground is really for the new generation that have struggled to visualise 4-6 like us older guys do. I see this as much as a remake to ready the handover for Disney to make these ongoing movies and start moving in different directions once they set the ground rules. We lost that opportunity with Luke, Han & Leia. I'm glad we weren't seeing an adventure of those three... they are old and need to move on.

I was thinking, with the appearance and use of Anakin's old lightsaber in episode 7, it would be cool if Obi-Wan's lightsaber showed up in one of the later films. It wasn't destroyed when he was killed, and I'm sure Vader took it instead of just letting it lying there on the floor. I guess he would have had to have taken it with him on his TIE when the DS blew up... but if Luke's could be recovered after how it was lost, I'm sure they could come up with an explanation as to how Obi-Wan's survived.

I think his death by his son's hand ties in beautifully with the Star Wars mythology from the OT. I can't really think of anything more fitting.

Oh the chewie bit? I think they got so caught up in showing the Rey/Leia moment and forgot that Chewie's a human too, specieists! Star Wars has always been like that and Chewie took off with Lando. This time round he's got a mad on for... hmmm he is quite conflicted now ain't he.
I'm not hoping to see a Spock-esque type of send off, but at least do something. But they ended Han's death with a hug, that's it.
