Every crap pic I see of this figure, I raise the price on my SSC ANH Vader by $20.

I've actually been making a killing on my old SSC figs as everybody races to snatch them up, because they're turning out better than the HT versions.

Really? I think I got $25 for my SS Bespin Luke after HT's came out. :lol

I can't imagine anyone would prefer SS's Farm Boy Luke or Leia over HT's based on the pics. HT Han is receiving much praise from those that have him in hand and HT Ben has been a toss up for many but that may change once more peeps get him. HT Stormies ar selling out and Chewie, well he's unique to HT in proper 1/6 form.

If SS's Vader is gaining in price then I'd better get him on eBay before HT's Vader ships so I can get the most for him.

Girl Vader? What makes this so feminine?

The cute face, slightly surprised expression, button nose. Delicate hands and fingers.

I was watching an EX SSC ANH that went for $100 on eBay a week or so ago. They are noticeably less than they were 12-18 months ago, but there are still some that go for $150+, so more than what the fig sold for new.

Funny, I remember ragging on Medicom's 2.0 for all those reasons and yet find this version to have a nice, mean expression (found the Medi's eyes too 'squinted', so love the HT's wide, spider-eyed lenses). Crazy how subjective this hobby is.

It's tempting to say "puppy dog eyes".

But a kitten seems more accurate.

I have this feeling that HT put a Hayden Christensen sculpt under the helmet.

Hmm, I always remember Vader as having very wide lenses and most companies sort of squishing them... personally I prefer a tiny bit too wide vs narrow. I disagree with your comparison, Kuat!

Edit: Re-looking at the prototype, I still think they have the essence down. It blows away both SSC and any customs I've seen (if you prefer the custom... buy it).

excited for this figure. Im thinking to order one of pixel pipers cathode lightsabers for him, anyone have one on their sideshow vader? I think that the LED saber that comes with the figure probably won't be that convincing

The set up is poor, but like every other Star Wars figure released by HT, people will complain and nitpick until they actually have it in hand, and then they will all go on and on about how amazing it is.

Yep. The pics on the first page of this thread have me sold on this. One or two horribly displayed Vaders isn't going to change that.

The dome seems to be improved and the displayed figure would look 1000% better with futzing, it's amazing how that inner robe can change the whole girth of the figure by moving it a couple of mm each way, the belt setup is crazy bad though

Hmm, these new pics show that the dome is (once again like SO many other vader collectibles, including most of sideshows various attempts) attached incorrectly. Just like both sideshow 1/6 releases, they've got the eyebrow ridge of the helmet smashed as close to the forehead of the face mask as possible and the bottom edge of the dome parallel to the bottom tube the ends in the tusk on the face mask. The end result making vader look surprised and like he has a mullet. Sideshow even tried to counteract the mullet effect on their second vader by making the flared skirt of the dome longer than it actually should be, when all they needed to do was tilt it back to a more accurate angle.

While the dome position varied from shot to shot in the movies (ESPECIALLY in ANH), it was always tilted back. And this tilt naturally results in the eyebrow area of the helmet sitting out away from the face mask a bit. Which also helps create the shadow over the eyes, making him look more sinister and not so shocked...

It's frustrating that so many collectibles get this dome tilt wrong because it is, imo, a CRUCIAL part of getting the over all look of vader down.

I will say the face mask (despite the inaccurate paint job around they eyes) looks like probably the best 1/6 sculpt to date. I'm thinking this face mask paired with sideshows V2 dome (with the skirt shortened a smidge and set at the correct angle) popped on a SS ANH vader might look totally killer! Now how much would that cost...?
