There's like 2 videos on YouTube but the basically tell you this: buy Tamiya TS-79 Semi Gloss Clear (I get mine from Amazon), get a big plastic cup from like 7-11 or wherever that will be a bit smaller than the diameter of the shield. This way the straps are protected when you seal it. Always apply 2 coats "lightly" and make sure both the paint and shield are warm. I usually soak the shields and paint cans in some hot water for a few minutes before I start painting.
Even though I've just given you the instructions (which I've done over a dozen times, I own quite a few Caps) I'd still recommend that you watch the videos. One is actually just based off the first and only shows the results (sorry I can't give you the link, but just search for "sealing" captain America's shield") so you should definitely watch both. One of the videos, I believe it's the second one who just shows the results, also tries the TS-13 which is just too glossy for my tastes. TS-13 makes them look shiny and toyish while TS-79 just seals the shield. I definitely recommend TS-79 even if you like the results of TS-13 because you can never go back while if you start with TS-79 and want a glossy look, you can always use TS-13 on top coat. Hope this helps.

Mine is actually posed the same way at the moment, but his foot is on the detachable damaged ultron head from my Mark 43.
That's only on the non-diecast shields like the TFA shield and Avengers 1 shield cause they were plastic but electroplated to make it look metallic.
None of the diecast have had any flaking issues that I am aware of.

That should be at the end of your post. A day and a bit of clear coat now vs the chance of flaking later is a no brainier which is why I coat every one I buy.

The AOU cap is not the first to have a diecast shield. The Golden Age Cap was the first time it switched to diecast and none of them had any issues of flaking.
Its only the plastic shields that were electroplated that had flaking issues.
Diecast shields are not electroplated, so it should be fine.

Though the AoU shield seems a little flat (especially the red part). I was thinking about giving it a little clear coat.

I just got my FedEx bill through for this and it is 75 euros WTF. That takes the figure to 310 Euros. How the hell can a 265 dollar figure including 40 dollar SS shipping cost 75 euros in fees FFS? Rip off Europe, you guys in the US don't know how lucky you are as we are getting ripped off there is no other way to justify these kinds of fees.
