Selsviken are the high gloss solid doors (available in 4 colors and one pattern) - Glassvik is still listed in the new product line on the UK site.

Seriously?! They're not even glass doors? (On my phone in the sun so hard to see).

That would make a great display... If you didn't want to see anything.

Wait!... It says 'High gloss/black clear glass'.

That's the package/combo consisting of Besta, Selsviken doors on the bottom, drawers above and Glassvik on top, plus other parts and hinges. IMO, the package/combo looks great - one should avoid using glass doors on the bottom of a Besta just like in this package. That space isn't suitable for display if the cabinet is on the ground, but makes excellent storage.

Also here are the new Bestas themselves:

Frames only just as the rep said they would be sold. You can really tell the difference in color already just from these pics. They also have new tabs installed near the top that you can pop out so you can screw it directly to the wall and then replace the tab to cover the screw.

The site is still updating. The Glassvik is still searchable and is now called Besta Glassvik exactly like the Ikea rep who was here awhile ago said it would be.
Ummmm... No...

GLASSVIK is not going anywhere (same 4 options as you have now), VASSBO (reg & glass) are also sticking around, and TOFTA is staying, although there will no longer be a TOFTA glass option. Some of the doors are changing names though.

Ummmm... No...

I actually messed it up. They were Besta Glassvik now they will just be called Glassvik

Very easy explanation...

BESTA GLASSVIK, which is the current door name, comes with a set of hinges inside the box (+ screws). If I can throw an assumption out there, the suppliers were probably told to stop making the older article # doors. In hindsight, they probably stopped making them way way too early.

GLASSVIK, which happens to be what the new door is called, is just a door... The hinges are sold in separate packaging.

Heck just to make you guys feel better, here are the descriptions for the "new" GLASSVIK doors

GLASSVIK Glass door, black/clear glass,*23 5/8x15 "
GLASSVIK Glass door, black/clear glass,*23 5/8x25 1/4 "
GLASSVIK Glass door, black/smoked glass,*23 5/8x15 "

GLASSVIK Glass door, white/clear glass,*23 5/8x15 "

GLASSVIK Glass door, white/frosted glass,*23 5/8x15 "

So for BESTA, for each new door you buy, you would buy 1 bag (or package) of hinges. Each package comes with 2 hinges. And you buy however many shelves you want. It's just like how STUVA is setup (as far as shelving goes).

Assuming this is walnut, and not light brown, the walnut variant I am seeing is different. Hoping your photo is the new light brown and mine is walnut. Would give us more total options. Plus, I really like the lighter, grayer walnut.

The brown one I found was actually on the Ikea UK site, the US one doesn't even have it up yet. Its color is listed as Oak Effect. The lighter color one you posted I found on the US site and is listed as Walnut Effect Light Gray.

Still all the old stuff on Display in France in store. No signs of anything new yet although they are closed sunday and monday so maybe that's for updating things. Might actually get some shelving finally on Tuesday :D

See the U.S site has the new doors up, nothing on the U.K version.

Those Ljusvik are expensive. The hinges come packaged with the push open device which I hated.

Really tempted to get some Sindvik.

What do you guys think of this custom Besta setup? All main parts from IKEA, plus about $20 elsewhere. Total cost less than Besta frame plus 3 Glassvik doors. The light blue panels are tempered glass - sliding doors. The doors can be lifted out and put back if something large needs to be placed into the cabinet first. This is built with the tall Besta or Stuva frame.

A similar setup can be made with the Wide Pax - this one requires a little bit more DIY as it needs the use of a circular saw to prep/finish. This is built with the 93"/236cm tall Pax frame - can also be done with the 75" frame with the bottom doors being proportionally shorter.

Looks similar to the back part of mine, I like it. The bottom extension I use to store my boxes. :wink1:

Question: how do you create the layout/plan/simulation like that?

No extensions are used in these designs though, just the basic frames.

I used Adobe Illustrator. Google's Sketchup would have been better as they could have been done in 3D and it would have been faster to type in the measurements - but I didn't have the patience for that just yet to show something real quick.
