I wish I knew what actually happened during product development at all these companies. I understand economic realities for some decisions, but there are always these mysterious creative decisions going down. Like there's a Toy Illuminati out there.

Maybe someone at Sideshow thought that R2 *should* be damaged around the eye. He falls flat on that spot on rocky terrain when the Jawas capture him in ANH. Again in ESB when he shoots out of the swamp and flies through the trees before landing head first.

I saw a photo while I was searching earlier showing damage along the bottom of the eye mount, but I can't remember where I saw it, or what film it was from. :slap

Can you indicate on this R2 where I'm supposed to touch to turn it on? Can't figure it out.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions, everyone! Just to recap it sounds like I look for the seam, should also be a button, some of it is touch sensitive (once to turn on, again for more, and a third time to turn off) and if that doesn't work I can try twisting the domes. Flaps can be opened with the lightsaber. Plus there are various holes throughout to insert things. Great figure.

Well I personally know they send higher end stuff back for changes all the time.

Do short Medicom R2 units count as higher end? Even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then - especially if it's sitting in your lap. ;)

I have a major issue with crap and lack of attention and commitment. The Medi R2 is a travesty - would you say any different?

Yep
He looks just fine with all of his friends

Life for you must be just pure hell.

Life is wonderful. But I don't mix scales in my SW displays. I'm not sure why some people find it a must to insult other people's standards. It's one thing to criticize a mass-produced product, but you're attempting to cross the line to make it personal and it's not appreciated. But I can also play tit for tat - but I won't.

I am just saying your life must be hell because NOTHING seems to be good enough for you. I am sorry if toys are that critical to be 100% accruate I can only image the hell you life must be when it comes to things that really are important.

My lord... every single thread in the SW sections is full of bickering. :lol

I still think I'm going to pick this up. Sure it's flawed just like every other fig and I don't think HT will do much better, but I don't want to miss out.

If HT does one better this guy will move to Jabbas display. ;)

Hey Pix, is it you who's made those wonderful screen accurate displays of your figures against realistic backgrounds, including one of Luke during the Bespin duel? If so, it would be nice to see them again. There's shelves... and there's shelves.

It isn't just the Star Wars section. People in this hobby in general seem too OCD and blow fairly insignificant details way out of proportion. Sometimes I get the complaints a bit but other times it gets annoying.

Don't forget the Internet Effect. Most people aren't so belligerent and argumentative face to face.

Nitpicking is par for the course, though.
