Re: Blu-ray wins format war

You're joking right? Please tell me you're joking Irish.

I know I took HD DVD's side because you BR fanboys were driving me crazy :lol, but that months ago and I never really went off the deep end with it at all. Who were the over the top HD DVD people?

Once again, I don't understand how one could be a fanboy. It's called an INVESTMENT. I'll say it again. When you invest close to, if not more than $1k into your hardware and movies, you want to see something succeed. I don't see how that's being a fanboy.

I invested in both so I'm a winner and a loser :monkey2:D

Re: Blu-ray wins format war

Well, I admittedly did not frequent the HD DVD vs Blu-Ray threads as much as you guys. But I certainly never noticed two real factions on here. It seems most of you guys were clearly 100% Blu-ray all the way.

Grab a few cups of coffee, maybe even a case of beer if it's during the evening, get all cozy by the fire, and read the entire thread.

Re: Blu-ray wins format war

I only have about 20 HD-DVD movies, so I will keep them and my HD-A35. Those I will not re-buy in Blu-Ray. But as soon as I get my PS3, I will be buying all my movies in Blu-Ray.

Re: Blu-ray wins format war

Can't wait for some great deals on some HD DVD's in the near future :chew

That's a perfectly reasonable stance.

I wonder if Toshiba might come out with an inexpensive HD DVD/Blu-ray hybrid player as a transition? It seems like that would be win-win for all, especially those consumers who did invest in HD DVD heavily. There really were some great HD DVD discs released.

Re: Blu-ray wins format war

Also, in the beginning and for quite a while, HD had way better looking movies than Blu-Ray did. I saw some of the first ones on my buddies PS3 and they did not look any better than regular DVD's. Hell, some looked worse. That was half the reason for my going to HD-DVD. But now the Blu-Ray discs look amazing.

And yeah, Toshiba before you get out of the business, put out a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray hybrid with the HD-A2X processor!! Please!!!

I wouldn't ever call that an investment. Thats a purchase. An investment is something that you put money into to get a financial gain. I understand that you spent a lot of money in hopes that you guessed correct, that you are happy but basically but to say its an investment is dumb, unless you invest to lose money then go a head an call it an investment because you accomplished your goal.

First off, saying it's an investment is correct in my eyes, even though not for financial gain (or loss), it's still an investment in my collection for the purposes of enjoying what I have put my hard earned money into for many years to come.

Second, anyones statements or thoughts are theirs to have and say, and shouldn't be called dumb.

It has nothing to do with "I hope Blu_Ray wins because I invested in it". It has to do with the "IN YOUR FACE HD DVD" attitude that some display here. People invested in HD DVD too and it's not bad enough that they lose their investment, but they also get to listen to "HAHAHAHAHAH WE WIN, YOU LOSE" crap as well.

You just need to understand that some people feel the need to be a dick all the time.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to this outcome. All movies in one format is great. Some movies were waiting for a clear winner, they can start production now, again great. The loss of competition will hurt the consumer in more ways than one.

But we all know that both formats were about the same quality and the money that Sony through at Studios was the deciding factor here. Not to mention the PS3 being a great BR machine.

Had the 360 come standard with HD DVD capability, I don't think BR would've had a chance in this war.

I'm fine with BR winning, I just want to see a lot of those titles that were on the fence finally released.

I agree 100%. But what's done is done. Since we now have a clear winner, it's time to for everyone to end the High School pep rally foolishness and have some solidarity behind Blu-ray (and also force them to be more consumer-friendly if they want to accomplish more than just killing off the other HD format).

Oh I agree. I am behind BR. I have two players and about 25 movies. I just hope I can still get some kick ass deals on movies.

Just bought 8 BR movies from Amazon for $107 shipped. Not too bad.

Deep Discount DVD has a lot of HD movies for like 60% off right now as well.

Re: Blu-ray wins format war

Thanks, guess I'll be keeping my eyes open for a deal on a PS3, any chance a new format is going to emerge out of this to challenge Blue Ray?

No, Blu is safe now. They are putting out the current maximum resolution that TV's can reproduce. There won't be another HD format until new TV's with even greater resolutions come out and be at an affordable price. I don't see that happening for a long time.
