I get my spare vest from TA today. The majority of it isn't actually too bad - the detailing is done in silver thread which catches the light nicely. It's the collar which ruins it - printed black lines, which make the silver thread appear darker. I'm going to try various things to make it look more useable - I'll post if i find anything that works :)

We do see and will evaluate the probelm and improvement of the figure.
(face, vast... good to see our body has overcome the critism at last)

My boss doesn't like the idea of re-run the same characters for the sake of making up our mistake, it is not fair to those who already bought a copy of the original figure.
so re-make is out of the question.

We do want to improve our figure like we do with ML, so likely we can do something about these with Gandalf the Grey, improvements for the White.

We will see what we can do !!

Maybe youcan produce a better vest and shorter neck to sell. I'm ready to pay; not too much of course. You can sell them from your website and if someone owns a gandalf the white; I think there's a serial number or something on the box; will type it and will get them with a decent discount. Just an idea.

I was thinking that too. offer replacement parts to those who own him already, along with version 2. as it stands now, I'm passing on him. but have HIGH hopes for Aragorn!

That you're even considering this is pretty amazing to me.

:clap

You've more than earned me as a customer.

Add a change-o head to the Gandalf the Grey and that would do it. I'm definitely interested in a GtG as well.

Maybe a head and vest for Gandalf the White could be exclusives pieces that come with Gandalf the Grey?

Then it will be exclusive replacement parts for Gandalf the Grey with the fig after that as it's 1 way to make sales i suppose.

I'm stuck with my order for GTW now and i'm pretty miffed about the head. I feel they let us down big time releasing it like that after showing us pics of a decent headsculpt. In future i'll only buy helmeted figs from Asmus if any at all.

Personally I'd rather Asmus sell "Improvement items" separately on their site, at a discount to those who bought previously (i.e. WK body and Gandalf vest/head). I do not think adding the WK body to Eowyn is the best way to satisfy previous buyers -- its works for me, but many here complained and I see their point.

If Asmus is going to offer imrpovement parts -- which is fantastic -- I hope they can sort it out another way other than including it in some other figure's packing. I'd prefer to leave that room for build-an-orc parts.

Sideshow and Hot Toys have done that same crap (i.e. Duke "upgrade" sculpt with Zartan, body upgrades, etc. etc.) and frankly it ticks me off they A.) Didn't get it right the first time and B.) Don't offer free replacements or discounts to customers who already bought it the first time. Big Chief gave their customers a free Amy Pong replacement head. Asmus should offer free replacement heads/replacement vests to their customers as a show of loyalty/dedication to their customers. This is the reason why I chose to get Hairagorn from ACI because the Asmus sculpt not only looks like an amatuere sculpt but chances are there will be problems with the final mass-produced head ala Blandalf as well.

Comparing this release with the BCS Amy release is a bit of a stretch. "Loyalty"? "Dedication"? They're a business, not your best friend, and they're selling $200 dolls, not Rolls Royces. Asmus has competition in ACI and you voted with your wallet by buying their product instead. Bravo to you. The fact that Asmus is here even considering feedback, including your disrespectful claptrap, is cool.

Now that they say Gandalf the Grey is on the horizon, I am definitely holding out for that! I like his look much more. I look forward to seeing how the grey version would look.

Funnily enough i was gonna mention the BCS Amy as well, but yeah that would be far too insulting as that really is a terrible figure for the price it cost and this isn't.

That said the fact that Asmus pulled a head from the mold and said **** it that'll do drives me nuts as it was very nice pre-hand to how squished it looks now.

As for ACI they said they were limiting them to their country only so it would be hard getting hold of them in the 1st place. So that left us hoping Asmus would pick up their game and deliver some non looking cartoony headsculpts like they usually do.

I do commend Asmus for asking for feedback about how things look....but then go ahead and release something that alternates from what people are happy with what is the point?

If they do Sauron i'm in, but i think that will be all i'd buy unless they manage to get another decent headsculpt and likeness and not get it squished in the mold. Even then i wouldn't pre-order as i'd want to see the finished item.

Giving the improvement parts with another figure is not a feasible way to satisfy the customers I think. For example, I don't want to pay a full figure price for an improvement. These parts will be on sale on eBay and I cannot see any benefit for Asmus and customers on it. It just earn more to resellers and retailers.

If Asmus will make any improvements for Gandalf the White figures there should be some way to sell them for a decent prices to figure owners. It's not a big issue. I told an idea on my previous message. There should be more options.

By the way making an improvement to the head sculpt is another thing. It means Asmus admit that they produce a faulty product. So it won't be an improvement but a fully new product. The head sculpt is the most important part of the figure. The other parts are just resculpts of existing parts.

So as a owner of this figure if there will be any improvement I prefer to buy the improved parts directly from Asmus but for a decent price for an owner.

I dont mind the head too much, but would have to remake the vest as white and the cloak with better fabric, like the quality of darth malgus cloak as it hung and dropped like liquid, amazing fabric:)

So, by that rationale, we should all wait for Asmus to release Gandalf the White version 2.0 because we all know Hot Toys and Sideshow do it when they know they have to make improvements as a guaranteed business strategy to "double-dip" on customers who were anxious enough to buy the first sub-standard version without thinking they would get a better quality product they would have to "upgrade."

I agree. Head has not any big issue even it's good. But the vest and the neck are the issues. And it's easy to replace them.

Well. It depend on what they are going to improve, and it is still not as close to a prototype, as it could have been. Frankly, these figures are getting close to HT prices, and if Asmus are making Gandalf the Grey almost right after they release the White version they should have mentioned it beforehand. I would wait. Now I purchased the White version, and if I want better body and head, I had to either buy another full figure, or hope for e-bay parted lots (with not necessarily reasonable price). This makes me think that it is not to wise to preorder more (wait till release, at least). Why should I be in a hurry, if there will be better version soon?
I also think that it would be fair to allow people who purchased the White version an upgrade through their site (with some confirmation/registration) for a reasonable price. Frankly, I am glad for what Asmus doing, they have good attitude in communication, but as a figure owner I feel that something is not completely proper around all these Gandalf "improvements" in this way. Of course, it is all up to them.

To me comparing to the pre-order shots on AE or BBTS it just looks like the paint is off (typical) so a lot of the details are gone and it might not be the faced is narrower as much as the beard isn't sticking out as far, its like the beard lost the volume on the sides and it is making the head look narrow compared to the prototype.

guess I will find out when mine arrives
