Not after we complete the fellowship...

which means Merry, Pippen and Gimli.

That's good to know - there's a great Gandalf already. Nothing is more frustrating than a company getting a previously held license and redoing a figure that was fine from other company (like Hot Toys saying one of their first figures will be Darth Vader).

Yea well I would like a different Legolas then the one SST did.

I like to see Asmus become like Hot Toys with there finely crafted figures. :ring

True but when there is a big gap in quality I do not mind the main characters being revisited. Legolas would be the most pressing since they are doing Aragorn already. Depending on their hobbit body Frodo and Sam might be needed too. Faramir and Boromir would be welcomed by me down the road after they tackle some other major characters like Théoden and Eomer.

Might? The Sideshow sculpt for Frodo is very bland. I think he most of all would benefit from a better sculpt and better proportions.

:goodpost:

Sideshow did a nice job on the hobbit costumes. (I actually liked the likenesses, too, but yeah, they were way too big-headed and way too neutral.) But that Sideshow hobbit body was the biggest problem for me. Especially those legs and feet.

I look forward to Asmus tackling the hobbits, but before that happens I'm REALLY hoping they make the kind of progress with their bodies that they're making with their head sculpts right now.

Because while I don't always mind swapping out their human-sized bodies for True-type knock-offs, there isn't really any other choice for hobbit-sized characters. So if that body has problems we'll be kind of stuck with it.

Fingers are crossed.

If they had only put in the suspenders then the costumes would have been all I could have asked for or wanted with that release. The feet did not bother me. If you look at a lot of shots from the film the hobbit feet were huge.

I like the hobbits from SSC a lot. I guess the question Asmus must look at - do they try and do a more in scale hobbit or try and do something that fits with the SSC ones. That decision will affect the scale for the dwarves as well.

That's a tough call. I'd like to get fresh new characters for my shelf and expand my line... but if Asmus' technique becomes so much more improved than 2006 Sideshow figures, then many core characters will really not fit in over time. Asmus Aragorn may look odd next to Sideshow Legolas and only accentuate the latters problems.

Maybe its better to get those other Sideshow figures up to date (Frodo, Sam, Legolas, Boromir, Faramir). Just spread them out a bit more. A couple new figures inbetween the Asmus updated versions of the Sideshow 1/6th figures.

I liked them a lot at the time (especially Sam), and the outfits are still pretty impressive, even in the post Hot Toys universe.

I still find the bodies a little oddly proportioned, though. If Asmus could crack that code and make them slimmer and smaller (even under all those clothes), that would be fantastic. Given everything they've shown us in the last couple of days, I'm getting pretty excited about what they might be capable of.

I also wouldn't be opposed to having their feet/shins sculpted as one piece. I didn't really mind the exposed ankle joint, but something about the Sideshow also sculpt made the feet too flat and the shins ... well, they were completely unsculpted and unpainted. So I'd be fine with it if Asmus wanted to only have articulation at the knee and sculpt it solid the rest of the way down. And maybe they could throw in a few sets of shin/feet in different positions (maybe a flat set and a bent set? Like Sideshow did with some of the GI Joe feet?)

Just a thought.

Starting to get really excited about this line now ... :panic:

I'm sure I'm in the minority here. I never minded the heighth of Frodo and Sam. In fact I wouldn't care if the hobbits and dwarves were the same size. That's just me though.

I wouldn't mind too much if they were the same height. (Heck, they change height all the time in the movies, depending on which camera tricks or CG they're using.) But I really hope they make the hobbits a lot slimmer and the dwarves a lot burlier.

I'm going to have to disagree on the Hobbits and Dwarves being the same size. Hobbits are "Halflings" meaning human morphology and proportions at half scale except for their feet. Asmus should shoot for accuracy and either develop two bodies or one modular body with extenders, and add-on parts for girth. I'm fine with waiting for GtG until after the rest of the Fellowship is done, but hopefully that policy does not extend to Legolas. I had the SS figure and sold it due to the underwhelming sculpt and cheap-o body.

This is what I'm hoping for

They could probably get away with using the same base body. Just fill out the middle maybe with the clothing and an extension to the torso and put on thicker boots? Depending on what base they use for the hobbit body they would only need to add an extra 1" to the dwarf.
