TMNT (2014) 5/10

I just saw the film and it's a piece of ****. It's not as bad as a Transformer movie, and it wasn't boring, which is good. Is it better than TMNT 2 and 3? Yes. However, the only things I like about the film are the Turtles and their chemistry and some of the action scenes. The film is 1 hour and 40 minutes, and somehow, they accomplished very little in comparison to the 1990 film. The original film was ten minutes shorter, and not only was it more faithful to the source material, it managed to give us an origin story, a more interesting villain, Casey Jones, and somehow, more time with the Turtles.

This new movie focused too much on the humans and we didn't get enough non-action scenes with the Turtles, just to see them in their home, hanging out like in the original film. One of the best parts about GOTG, is all those non-action scenes where we get to hangout with the characters and we see them interacting with each other. TMNT didn't do a good job showing the city, the sewers, the turtle's home, the turtle's relationship with Splinter or even the Turtles eating pizza. Even though the original film is shorter, by the end of the film you feel like you know all the characters pretty well, and there are no loose ends. Splinter's voice was not good either and even worse, was his appearance. He must be the ugliest rat I've ever seen...would it kill them to make him cute? Rats are not that ugly. As Raphael would say, DAMN!! This film is not the worst film ever, and Kids will like it and TMNT fans will not hate it, but it could've been much better....I think we all knew that already.

To me, any movie I would start out saying is a piece of **** would not deserve a 5 out of 10. Myself, I would consider 5 out of 10 to be mediocre or maybe slightly below average.

Not trying to give you a hard time or anything.

Just my view, but here is how I see the ratings...

10 Perfect
9 Awesome
8 Excellent
7 Very Good
6 Good, better than average
5 Average, ok, not bad
4 Has many problems, below average
3 Poor
2 Dsimal
1 Terrible
0 Absolutely nothing of any redeeming value, the worst imaginable.

5/10 is not worth seeing, so it's fair enough to say it's a piece of crap imo. Plus, there were words.

For me 10 is perfect
9 is excellent yet not without it's flaws
8 is great
7 is plain good
6 has it's moments
5 is mediocre and anything below only gets worse.

It was my initial reaction, and I had just seen the film. The writing is bad, imo. The villains, their plans, and their motives are predictable. If it wasn't TMNT, I would give the film a 3, but my "love" for the TMNT is what gave it a 5 because the film wasn't boring, they got a few things right, and the action was above average. Also, Michelangelo always made me smile through the film.

Ahhh Graded on a curve.

Makes sense now. ;)

I'm guilty of that from time to time.

You can say that. If you're a big TMNT fan, you might like it or at the very least, you won't hate it. In fact, even if you're not a fan, you won't hate it, but there's nothing great or even memorable about it.There are films that are pieces of **** that you can still like and enjoy, but you still recognize that they are not great or even good, like Commando. I love Commando, but is it great filmmaking? No. Do I enjoy it? Hell yes! If you have 90 minutes to kill, go see it..or wait for redbox. :)

I was just going through movies I loved as a kid, and just watched them for the first time since then:

Star Wars 6/10
Empire Strikes Back 9/10
Return of the Jedi 8/10

Raiders of the Lost Ark 10/10
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 4/10
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 8/10

Batman Returns 4/10

American Hustle - 9/10

Fat Batman, Rocket Racoon with a perm, Skanky Lois Lane, Hawkeye with a Pompadour and Nail polish sniffing, dodo brained Mystique. DC and Marvel eat your hearts out. :lol
