Yeah, the debut has been a bit muted. I mean, Syfy has been advertising it but if you weren't a regular Syfy viewer or (like myself) kept pretty close tabs on the Facebook it was easy to miss. Even I missed the premiere! I know the ratings took a hit, and it doesn't seem like a cheap show to produce. I've resigned myself that this could be it, but I'm still hopeful they might wrap up the story with a movie or something if the finale isn't planned. Still, Syfy has a lot invested in it, so maybe they'll give it another chance.

It doesn't have a whole lot of special effects so I wouldn't think it would cost too much more than a regular drama. I would think Dominion would cost more, though I haven't looked to see how it was doing.

There are however a lot of prosthetics and makeup effects, and Defiance itself seems like a pretty huge set with loads of extras to populate it. Dominion is hard to judge. There are cgi effects, but none of it looks terribly impressive and I'm guessing most of the actors on there, aside from Tony Head, work on the cheap.

I think the series has potential but the game linked to it pretty much bombed big time. I should know as I was on the dev team that made it. It's unfortunate but with the game being a bomb, i don't think the defiance franchise can really survive too long.
I never played the game, so what was the problem with it? Did they ever cross the show over with the game at any point like they were advertising originally before the show was aired.

I think I watched the first episode and then disnt get around to watching any further.

Season 2 has not been holding my interest. They try so hard to be 'sexy' that it comes off as desperate. Get some clothes on and tell a good sci-fi tale, damnit!

It just had a lot of problems out of the gate and the crossover with the show didn't have the potency they seemed to promise in the advertising. I think that turned a lot of people off. I played it for a good long while, but DLCs and promised content took a LONG time to show up, and like a lot of MMOs it got a bit repetitive for me. I might give it a go again some time. I did have some fun while playing it, but the nature of MMOs don't really lend themselves to being that involving, to me.

As for episode 4, I think it was great. I've noticed the show seems even more focused on the interaction of characters this year, which I like. It's a strong group of people to play with. Berlin and Pottinger prove themselves to be great characters, and I really love the interaction with the Tarr's. "You should have made me a partner..." BRUTAL! The chess game between Stahma and Datak is great to watch. I am also liking the Tommy/Nolan friction though Tommy is always going to come off looking bad there.

Yeah I don't think MMO's are really my thing, was bored out of my mind watching others play Eve online years ago.

As for the show, I do want to catch up with it as I am a big Jaime Murray fan :)

I thought Indogenes were sort of genderless. But I looked it up and I guess I was wrong. LOL.

Interesting stuff this episode...

Doc Yewll always seems to be working with the shady people, eh? It's a credit to the actress and the writing that we still love her as a character. I was glad to see her get some significant screen time and some personal back story in this episode, too, after being fairly in the background or to the side most of the episode.

The fact that EGO implants were causing all the problems this episode was fun for those who play/played the game. :) The way they "spread" to Doc and Pottinger was interesting. And they found a reason to bring Gale Harrold back as Connor. Which, is awesome on one hand... but also kind of sad because A.) He didn't interact with Amanda and B.) I honestly was not sure of what half of what he was saying meant! I felt like he was speaking in code!

I hope this is the last of Adreeno-huffing/snorting Amanda we see. LOL. I mean, it's been interesting for her character in some ways but I'm ready to move on.

The scenes between Stahma and Rafe in the bathtub and during Datak's homecoming were awesome. And look, Christi did something! Wow! :D

I'm going to have to watch last nights episode again. Not sure why Amanda blew off Nolan. Is it just me or did something look different about Arisa this episode? Seemed like they changed the makeup or something. The Ween is right about the kink. This show is looking more like Lost Girl every week.

I think they changed her makeup this season. They made her more feminine looking. Her forehead isn't quite as high for one thing and her hair is different.
