I'm hoping Louis van Gaal arrives tomorrow and kicks Woodward's arse into gear.

£34 million for a top class midfielder that doesn't appear to be concerned about the lack of European football should be a massive no brainer for a club in United's position.

If Luiz is worth £50 million then Utd should be biting Juve's arm off for Vidal for 34 million

I'm surprised Chelsea haven't shown interest just to push his price up

I'm surprised Juve are ok selling him

Luiz isnt worth 50m lol. Chelsea must be laughing all the way to the russians bank. Vidal is quality though. Iv got a feeling United may get him. He is interested by the noises coming from his camp.

Well Conte has just quit as Juve boss.

Just heard that now on Sky Sport News. It was only a few days ago I was reading about him saying how they (Juve) must strengthen the team & do better in Europe

Maybe he could be the new Italy coach

No way, he is too young and dynamic to be happy with the comparative sedentary workings of a national team coach.

Don't discount Arsenal coming in for Vidal. The transfer of Sami Khedira to Arsensl is collapsing because of his wage demands, so don't be surprised if Vidal is seen as the second best option.

If it's true that the main factor in United not signing Vidal right now is due to his knee, then their skepticism is somewhat justified. However, I'd still sign him as soon as is humanly possible.

And it looks like Juve manager Antonio Conte has just resigned. Now is the time to strike.

After what happened with Owen Hargeaves I could see the reluctance in wanting to spend big on another possible crock.

If Vidal is off the table then maybe Pogba could be persuaded to return. He only left because Fergie wouldn't give him a chance.

He'd probably cost more, but is a lot younger so could be seen as a better long term investment.

Vidal's knee better be shattered because I agree with all of you at that price he's a steal

Arsenal need to put in a cheeky bid :wink1:

Forbes magazine are now saying United are the wealthiest sports franchise on the planet and share prices rose by 5% in the wake of the announcement of the Adidas deal.

Which is all fine and dandy, but it's gonna make them look pretty f'ing stupid if they back out of a deal for Vidal over money and don't make any other signings this window.

One other midfielder that's being linked with a move is Kevin Strootman who missed the World Cup due to injury. The feeling is that a move won't be made until January as by that time he'll be fit again and have got a bit of playing time under his belt.

Aside from a strong physical resemblance to RVP I've no idea what he's like but he can't be that bad as he was one of van Gaal's main men in the qualifyers.

One of the other big rumors doing the rounds is a £20-£25 million bid ( depending where you read it ) for Mats Hummels.

As he's a World Cup winner Dortmund can now add a few million to the price but United have a possible ace to play as they could offer Shinji Kagawa as part of the deal....Klopp would probably take him back in a heartbeat as he was ( rightly ) critical of how he was treated by Fergie in his first season and also made enquiries to re-sign him last summer.

Interesting man, is Strootman a holding mid? I remember us being linked with him a year or two ago.

Hummels for $20-25.......

Well I place that in the Vidal category as in insane not to buy for that $$$$$$$

He's gotta be one of the best in the business if not the best CB going around. I'd be surprised to see him go for that price. After what PSG paid for you know who :lol

I got this from Wikipedia,

Strootman is said to be a tough-tackling midfielder, possessing good vision and balance on the ball. He is a physical, tactical strong midfielder. He is best used as a central midfielder, often serving as a box-to-box midfielder or a deep-lying playmaker. He is known as the Dutch Roy Keane, drawing comparisons for the uncompromising style of play.

Dutch Roy Keane? Sounds good to me.

He's also 2-3 years younger than Vidal and was a major part of van Gaal's Dutch squad during the World Cup qualifying stage.

If he recovers from his knee injury OK he could be a better option than Vidal and being part of van Gaal's Dutch side can only work to United's advantage.

I've not read it but Wikipedia's rundown of United's current defensive midfielder probably says something like this,

Carrick is said to be "there", but nobody really knows why. He has the pace of a dead slug, can't tackle, can't beat players, can't create goals and doesn't even shoot, let alone score goals. His ability to suck the momentum out of every attack by passing the ball sideways or backwards is the best in the world. His permanently slack jawed facial expression makes many onlookers wonder if there's a village somewhere that's missing an idiot. He is best used as far away from Old Trafford as humanly possible and is usually known as Useless.

:lol nice one man that gave me a good laugh

I'll be interested to see more of Strootman then. When I watched some vids on him he was still raw (typical Arsenal buy at the time) but I could see the potential. From the sounds of it he must be meeting that potential now. Probably wouldn't cost anywhere near Vidal but at the same time I'm wouldn't put them at the same level anyway. I guess it depends what the Glazers want to do with 75 mill a year over the next 10 years :horror

I think it's pretty likely that some Dutch players will arrive at some point as in addition to Strootman I've seen Stefan Di Vrij, Bruno Martins Indi, Daryl Janmaat, Wesley Sneijder, Nigel de Jong, Daley Blind, Ron Vlaar, Memphis Depay and even Dirk Kuyt linked with moves on various sites since van Gaal was announced as the new manager.

United's past Dutch players have been a mixed bunch eg,

Jaap Stam, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Edwin van der Sar were all awesome.

RVP has been great when fit and fully committed to the cause, but he went on strike last season as he clearly didn't like Moyes.

His "injuries" soon vanished once Moyes was sacked and he was running around like a spring chicken in the early World Cup games.

Raimond van der Gouw was a solid backup for Peter Schmeichel.

Jordi Cruyff and Alex Buttner were terrible. I kinda felt sorry for Cruyff as it can't have been easy having that surname.

I think Liverpool will slip out the top 4. I wouldnt be at all surprised if United make a push this season. They have some very good players and no euopean football to contend with. could make them dangerous.

And a great manager.

I can see pool falling out of the top 4. I think spurs or Everton will claim the 4th spot.

Looks like Vidal to United might be getting close. La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting United have offered €44m.

And here's the boss on his first day:

Rooney is now demanding a multi-year deal with Pukka Pies or he wants a transfer :lol

:lol

I read an alleged quote from Juve's sporting director an hour or so ago and he was saying Vidal isn't for sale so who knows what's going on :dunno

I reckon 44 million Euros, Evra, Nani and all the noodles they can eat should be enough.....most noodles can cross the ball better than Nani.

After last year it's very uplifting to see United with a proper manager again.

Unlike Moyes he should be given time and money because his track record shows he can get things done.

Yeah I saw that moments after I made the post. I went from feeling good to feeling frustrated in a matter of seconds. :lol

It's certainly exciting to see Van Gaal take charge. Can't wait for the upcoming season. I couldn't say the same this time last year.

Despite my optimism, some more signings would seal the deal. Hummels, Reus and Vidal would be perfect. And I also see United are in for Cavani again. Even though he's a quality player, I'm not sure where he'd fit in. Unless he plays him alongside Van Persie.
