Grand Torino 8/10

I love that movie, I want to be a bitter badass guy when I get old.

Ha ha, I agree, thought the same thing when I watched that movie.

Funny thing is, recently met with some of my relatives that I hadn't seen in years, as a gift they brought me a old pic of my Dad from 1979 (he died in 1982) and looking at the pic I had almost forgotten how much of a "tough Guy" my Dad always appeared to be. Don't get me wrong, he was a great father and I never wondered whether he loved us or not. In a way he kind of reminded me of Eastwood, or maybe a combo of him and Paul Newman or Steve McQueen. To be honest, I just dont think people in my generation, or the ones that have followed really have it in them to be like that, we are just too soft and "in touch" with our emotions, no matter how tough we like to think we are. I look at the picture of that man who has been gone for 32 years now and think, I'd hate to have been in a bar fight with him.

Anyway, it was a cool gift, as most of our family pics were lost in flooding.

On a side note, I also got a kick when I noticed, sitting on the table beside my Father was the old remote controlled Star Wars Landspeeder that used to operate by clicks of a plastic R2.

Sorry for rambling.

No man, thanks for sharing, your dad sounds like he was a proper guy, also, damn that was a relic, I never owned that landspeeder myself, but I had the big Millennium Falcon, god I loved that toy.

I don't think it's about being tough though, it was about just being a proper man, being responsible, respectful and hardworking, you know, give your word and name some value, and that movie portrays "my" generation perfectly, there are obviously people who are not that way, but the majority either self-entitled ignorant whiners, or self-entitled over-educated and over-sensitive whiners :lol and the younger generation is even worse.

28 Weeks Later was totally watchable, even if it didn't live up to the first. I'd still love them to make a sequel. I think the only movies I've ever seen that had a significant detriment on the series were the Matrix sequels - to me it proved that the creators didn't in fact have a very fleshed out vision for what they wanted to do and left a lot of it up to a last minute scramble.

^ just don't try "Weeks Later", it'll ruin the experience.

Weeks is okay, but it tried to be an action film more than a zombie/infected film.

Last I heard, the owners of the rights to the franchise aren't talking so a 2nd sequel will most likely not happen.

Matrix Reloaded I thought was pretty good, although the CGI Neo looked BAD. I HATED Revolutions completely, total let down of the conclusion.

The Lego Movie: 7.5/10

Under the Skin: 9/10 - Best SciFi movie since Alien.......

I actually love all three movies in the franchise. Believe it or not, my main gripe with Revolutions was that horrible cheesy evil villain laugh Smith did after he took over The Oracle, I don’t know what the Siblings were thinking shooting that scene.

Everything else really worked for me, maybe it’s because I’m a sucker for philosophy, but Revolutions did a great job intertwining all the philosophical metaphors and themes while keeping the movie entertaining and action packed while bring Neo’s journey and the birth, life, death, love, sacrifice, self awareness, and enlightenment themes from the first two films full circle. The Wachowski siblings implemented a variety of religious and philosophical meanings into Neo’s journey that parallels Hinduism, Christianity Buddhism, Socrates etc…into a cool, cyberpunk, science fiction kungfu film.

I think people wanted a definitive, happy conclusion to the trilogy, and the Wachowski siblings ended making something a bit more cerebral. I loved that they didn’t give us a typical Hollywood ending and instead of telling us the end, they kind of let us give our own interpretation of what we think happened. For the Matrix fanatics like myself, its kind of fun, every time I watch the movie I notice something new about it. The main problem though, is that the vast majority of movie goers don’t want to have to watch a movie about 10 times to finally understand it, and gets the answers, so I understand why most people hate the sequels.

I think if most people give it another watch, they still might be disappointed with it but realize these aren’t badly written films. I think the sequels are much better films than 90% of the science fiction/action flicks releasing these days.

Man.. the Matrix series. :lol

I liked the first one when it came out - I thought it was intense & clever. Then it just got ****ing stupid - real quick.

That said - I revisited the first one a few months ago for the first time since 1999, & it did nothing for me.

I was so excited for this movie when it came out, went opening day and (unlike almost everybody else) I hated it. It felt like philosophy for 15 year olds who were reared on nothing deeper than comic books, no offense to comic fans.

I understood the movie but didnt understand the love so many had for it. I have since rewatched it on 2 separate occasions to see if it would grow on me, but it never did.

I actually saw the second one in the cinema.. good lord. :lol

I remember taking a girl I was seeing at the time, & by about half way through - we were in hysterics.

We were literally mocking the thing out loud after about 45mins. :lol

The Matrix is fantastic, the 2nd one isn't very good, but it's serviceable... I don't remember a large part of the 3rd one so I couldn't say, I just remember it at least concluded the story in a sensible way, but I don't remember much of the development, which is not a good sign.

I still don't understand the praise The Matrix gets. Can't stand that movie.
