Wow, that makes the pricing of HIC that much more of a surprise.
Yes, although with that piece they have been selling it for years and probably can't go back and bump up the price at this point. But with a new product they are free to price it however they like. At least that's my take.

Hasn't anyone at Sideshow ever heard of the RPF and all the people doing custom HICs for a fraction of their asking price? I know they're banking on a bunch of super-rich collectors to just throw money around without thinking a thing of it, but people like that don't grow on trees and I'm pretty sure only a small fraction of them are into 1:1 SW collectibles.
The people at the RPF are kind of the polar opposite of the kind of person who would buy one of Sideshow's life size figures. The advantage of buying from Sideshow is you get a "turn key" piece that requires no work or research, but you do pay handsomely for it (and usually end up with a piece that is considerably less accurate as well). I think Sideshow has decided to go all-in on the "rich casual collector" segment -- people who have a lot of money and want some cool stuff, but don't necessarily care if something is inaccurate. I don't know how many people like that there are in the world, but I assume they've done their research and are basing this on the response that their previous offers got.

I've had several failed attempts to purchase the IC Carbonite Han. While this is a sure bet, don't think I can swallow Siideshow's price pill. So we'll see when it goes up.

What a massive disappointment to see that they didn't mold the full front panel instead of using a fan produced casting that had been cut up into sections for ease of shipping. The carbonite "flash" details surrounding the body have some very distinctive shapes and as I spotted at SDCC, the Sideshow front panel has got some of these shapes missing where the join line between the sections had to be rubbed down and smoothed over. I owned a fan made copy produced by Vos here in the UK. It was an awesome attempt but it had the same problem of the missing details where it had been joined and rubbed down. Every time I looked at it, my eyes were drawn to it. This Sideshow version looks exactly the same so I'm wondering if they used the same split panel casting that Vos used for his or maybe they got hold of one of Vos's complete castings?

The display stand, surrounding "box" and control panels are all excellent and better than the Illusive Originals version. However, the actual Han casting on the Illusive version is MUCH better than Sideshow's because Illusive Originals molded a complete, uncut front panel for their version so it's actually the closest you'll get to the original. This is just a glorified fan version which although nice, should have been perfect considering Sideshow's connection with Lucasfilm and presumably the fact that they could have gone to the archives to mold stuff just like eFX has done with their "Legend" helmets.

I think this best represents how I reacted to the price on this thing.

Edit: Can not seem to get a gif to post, move along.

Instead of clicking the link to buy it now, I clicked it and laughed maniacally like The Joker at that price tag. :wink1:

You guys think it's worth selling my Illusive Concepts HIC and some other stuff I've been meaning to sell (a few pieces that are more or less redundant in my collection) to pay for this guy? Sideshow's price is unfortunately higher than expected and I know the illusive front panel is technically more accurate being off the original molds, but boy do I love that base and accurate, light up panels. Plus it's presumably a bit more solidly constructed than the illusive one.

I wouldn't do it, man. You could sell your Illusive Concepts HIC and other items you're looking to move, then try to find someone on either the RPF or Rebelscum to build you a completely accurate HIC with full electronics for a fraction of Sideshow's price and then pocket the rest of the cash. No way is this thing worth the $7k ticket.

Here's the photo that clearly shows where the Sideshow piece has got missing detail compared to the original because they've used a front panel that has been pieced together from separate sections and the join has been rubbed down which has removed detail.

Someone told me that they also reused some fan-made parts on their C-3PO. It's kind of distressing, given the price and the fact that they should presumably have access to better resources than fans do.

A buddy actually ordered this last night. I am not sure how he's going to swing it financially but he seems to think he'll live off Ramen Noodles for the rest of the year.

I would consider it if they offered more flex plans. No way I'm paying close to 700 a month or 7k up front for this. Besides we all know this isn't shipping out in 11 months anyways.

Yep, having a $700 payment for a year WITHOUT having anything in hand is a tough pill to swallow. I'm not sure what my price point would have been to pull the trigger, but it is somewhere well south of 7K. Maybe 4K and 18 months of Flexpays...
