I just bought doors for my Ikea Pax. Could one of you who built Pax displays tell me the best way to measure for the acrylic panels? A tape measure doesn't seem precise enough based on the measurements I've seen in this thread.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Not sure what kind of doors you got, but on mine there is a lip around the perimeter that holds the glass/acrylic in. Measure the clear dimensions between the lips (height and width) on each door (the two doors may not be exactly the same size, so make sure).

Then take a small ruler and measure the distance under the the lips top and bottom, and add both to your height dimension. Do the same with both sides and add that to your width.

I then subtracted 1/16" from the height and width just to ensure the panels slid nicely into the frames.

My panels ended up fitting like a glove!

Good luck!

Did you get the new thin door frames?

Sure did, in black. $225 per 2 door set and I bought 2. So I'll need 4 acrylic panels. I'll have to build them and measure them soon. Seen here:

Hey bud, I bought the AULI doors, and they were supposed to have those horizontal cross members, too. I just left them out...they are only there to hold the glass panels. If you get a full height acrylic panel, you don't need them.

If you can, leave them out so they don't obstruct the view!

That's the plan, thanks man!

Do they make non sliding doors for the PAX? I don't like the unevenness of the sliding doors.

Awesome, let me know what measurement works for you on the acrylic panels and I shall follow your footsteps. :)

Will do. It might take me a couple weeks before I can build and measure but I will definitely post the measurements.

I just finished installing my 93x80 Pax. Thanks to all who contributed information in this thread. I got the new thinner metal frames as sliding door. The measurements are different than gayilia's.

Thickness = 3/16 in
Height = 90 11/16 in
Width = 39 8/16 in

My measurements resulted a tight fit. I believe due to the size and weight of the acrylic panel, even if it's a little loose, it could cause the panel to bend and fall out of the newer model's metal lip.

Did you use exactly the same measurement for both pieces of acrylic?

Great thanks man. Now I'm tempted to just use your measurements and order my panels. We bought the same door frames right? Just frames and rails, no panels.

Yup, same one. Just make sure you do some research on the plastic company you are going with. A lot of them are not accurate with their cut.

Which plastic company did you use? I'm gonna have to order mine because I need it delivered.

I got mine from Orange County industry plastic. The panels were able to fit in my van, shipping that size would probably cost a fortune and be damage prone.

Anyone have any ideas what black material this guy is using on each level of his Detolf?

It sort of looks like cloth. Are there any good pre-cut swaths out there that would fit?

He probably just cut the fabric with scissors. You can also use a piece of bristol board, construction paper, masonite painted black, adhesive vinyl (stick it to the glass) etc.
