Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

I'm not too shy about cutting the collar if need be, but I'm not so sure about my sewing skills if I have to stitch this thing back up.

I can't stand stand sewing and stitching. That's why I just used my fingers and presto.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

After I was finished with the mod, yes...I did sew the suit back together at the back.
Mine was glued very well so I had to unstitched the back more than halfway down his back.
I sewed it back up when I was done, didnt want the hassle of the suit looking loose cause its not stitched at the back.

The collar mod you are referring to where most people didnt have to break open the suit is the one where you only remove the bottom plastic collar.
Before Tony posted his mod, most people were doing just this cause in some cases, you dont have to unstitch the suit to remove the lower plastic collar.

There are two types of shoulder mod.
The easiest one, is the one I mentioned above in which you only remove the lower plastic collar.
The other method is removing both the upper and lower plastic collar. The lower plastic is completely removed.
The upper collar is hollowed out in the middle, and then glued back to to the suit.
This method is harder cause you do more damage to the top part of the suit,
but it is nicer cause the cape lays flatter on the shoulders.

Thank you for the reply. Seeing how yours turned out, I can see myself going back to this post a few times here in the near future. I don't have the cape yet, and I have to get some paint for the collar. Just going for one large mod instead of going back to him several times. Again, thank you.

Turns out there *was* enough room in the head to stash the battery after all.

I like your creativity and engineering talent, but have you got your actual MOS yet? No offense but that Supes return outfit is just not cutting it for a custom. I know when you get the actual piece your custom will be off the chain.

Not yet.
My friend in Illinois that resends them to me had a lot of work on and didn't get the chance to post them till yesterday.
I have a TTM20 body coming, and a spare MOS suit. I am going to fit large Neodymium magnets in the back and use them to hold him up rather than the waist grabber.
I'll still be keeping that SR custom intact. I like it even if others don't.

I see, I would like to see the TTM20 body on the MOS suit..Sorry to be so nitpicky, but that the SR suit doesn't do the MOS justice. The symbol is horribly small and the suit is too bright.

But I commend you for adding the LEDs in the sculpt. The heat vision look, I can live without. If Hot Toys makes one in the future, I'm all for it, for now I'm good without it.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

Yup, but I had to be careful.

Nice!
Mine though, there was no way...it was glued very well.
In Tony's instruction, he only unstitched halfway, I had to unstitch further cause the dang plastic collar wouldnt come off the body.
I had to unstitch more cause I didnt want risk of stretching the suit.
Mine was glued so well, in fact it took a chunk off the true type body. :google
Fortunately, the area is not really visible.

Nothing ever comes easy with these customs buddy as you know. it's all experimentation. I tried removing just the top collar at first, wasn't satisfied, then removed both collars, still bothered me. then when Tony said to hollow out the collar, there was the answer although it was a complete pain. I had no idea how deep or how far to hollow out, extreme risk. I'm just glad it evened out in the end.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

Finally got my MOS!!!
I was really amazed at how heavy the box is. Can't wait to open him up.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

What is it, model, statue, prepainted, resin kit?

It's technically a figure. X-plus makes realistic molds of the actual suits from the various movie and casts them in hard vinyl, then paints them with tons of detail.
It does have some limited articulation, but nothing along the lines of a Hot Toys or anything. It's suppose to look like that Godzilla from a particular movie scene come to life. They are really beautiful in person.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

so I have to ask because I haven't seen it mentioned since Tony did it before showing us his cape - when pulling out the under collar piece and hollowing out the upper collar piece, is it still necessary to sew the suit back together at the back? I thought I read that someone figured out you can do the collar mod without breaking the suit open, or am I wrong?

I managed to pry out the under collar without unstitching the back of the suit. I followed MasterMarf's suggestion and used one side of from the flat edge of a pair of tweezers. Cutting both the upper and lower collar parts at the back really helps to give you more "play" when you are using the tweezer to pry under the suit and tease it away from the under collar. Just work real slowly carefully wiggle the blunt edge side to side to pry the fabric out. For the heavily glued sections (the side and the front) I used a hairdryer and heated the general area and the tweezer a few seconds to help loosen up the glue.

For prying the under collar from the body, I just warmed up the tweezer and worked the heavily glued sections at the sides. The parts of the plastic from the body might be removed also because of they way they Hot Toys glued it.

It was a nerve-wracking mod for me to do, but as long as you are careful and work at it slowly, you shouldn't mess up the suit. This would have been a much easier mod had Hot Toys used their usual shoddy glue application methods like they did on the DX07 Bespin Luke. :lol

1984 or 1985 was an awesome movie..The japanese/english dubbing of the characters was hideous. But the rest of the film rocked. Especially when they showed the Godzilla attacking destroyer... " Da Da Dum..Da Da Dum..Da Da Dum music...Classic :lol

I ROFL when Godzilla disabled the craft and then dropped a skyscraper on it. Godzilla looked like " Is that all you got...Now you can't fly...I'm done with you..Goodbye! " and then knocked the building on top of it.
