hey guys, Not a big Star Wars fan but I am interested in getting this guy, but I see this figure is getting a lot of hate on here. Can anyone explain exactly why the hate? To my casual eye he looks perfect but I am sure the die hard fans can tell me in the inconsistencies between this and the real Vader. Thanks.

Licorice Pants, Homer Simpson Dome, someone on here said non-45 degree angle voice box and I think someone said not enough S&M for them, but I haven't a clue who. :dunno :lol

I think I might get him, he looks fine to me.

I think a lot of the people complaining about it already have ANH Vader and expected a dramatic improvement with this figure. I am happy to save my cash in not picking this up, but if I didn't have the first SS version I would buy it for sure, despite its shortcomings. The biggest disappointment for me is the reveal sculpt - I'd be buying this as a second Vader if they'd gone with a Shaw portrait.

I think it's because for some people, characters like Vader, stormtroopers, boba fett are very iconic to them. And some know every little line and shape of the costume and any deviation throws the likeness off for them.( just as having the wrong shape nose on a sculpt would throw a human likeness out)
I have the Anh Vader, and did quite a few mods to it, but got to say despite its flaws its a favourite...... If you like it get it.... If you can't see the nit picks, your kind of blessed... With in a week there a few creative/brave people that are willing to experiment and fix most of the problems and tell us how to do it anyway.

Reminds me of Charles Widmore, General Ross, Vice President Jim Prescott, Toothpick Man and Mr. Robinson.

Anakin Skywalker not so much.

This forum is crowded with people who have unrealistic expectations and hate simply for the sake of hating, don't pay too much attention to it imo.

On the other hand I completely understand the perspective of those who have issues with this figure. Nearly all of the problems that people have pointed out with this Vader don't bother me personally - but you know... how hard is it really to produce a perfect or even near-perfect portrait of what is ostensibly an armoured figure? It's not nearly as hard as Sideshow are making it out to be by their inability to get the finer details right.

I have ordered this figure. I did not get the previous version SS (or any other version for that matter), of him so this will be my very first DV ever...a Vader Virgin, if you like. So, to me he looks spectacular and will be the hub of my growing collection of screen villains. I would consider myself a strong fan of Star Wars and I can understand why a huge number of faults would be unacceptable. But to me and any friend or family member that may throw a casual look at it, they would be, to all intents and purposes, unnoticeable.

I do feel that it starts to get a bit extreme when folks start quoting that the 'whatever' is not at the correct 45 degree angle that it should be at, then they are expecting a little too much from any figure, even a $200+ one. Excuse me while I get out my slide-rule and compass.

So, I like it. I know that there are many here that can give me a whole long list of things that are 'wrong' with it. I can live with them because I am not getting **** about it as I am aware that these are just (strictly speaking) over priced toys and most of them wouldn't matter to me that much anyway, so I have Pre-Ordered it and I am glad that I did.

I'm a vader virgin as well, never had anything vader before. I'm a huge SW fan and yet i hardly have anything :lol
Even though i'm a SW fan theres so much SW stuff i could never get everything i want, which why i have just a few things.
I have SS mace windu, qui-gon, obi-wan, darth maul, and cody. I've meant to get boba fett so many times yet HT stuff gets in the way.

So i have a lot of expectations with this vader, he doesn't have to be perfect just look like a 250 figure somewhat :lecture

One main reason I think for the disappointment for some is the seemingly LESS accurate look of this vader to previous incarnations...ie a $75 art fx vader that looks more accurate in the helmet alone, or a smaller artfx vader that looks more accurate, or a larger mythos vader that looks more accurate... Size is no longer an excuse when there are products, both larger and smaller, more and less expensive that have better overall sculpts than this deluxe figure,,,
Granted this has poseability and clothing but that's not an excuse to sculpt this any less accurately than any other vader on the market geared toward adult collectors ...

The bar has been set higher for these more expensive toys

I am not saying it has to be completely accurate, but not subpar compared to the quality of its contemporaries...
It's slightly better than nah vader, but with new issues particularly the licorice suit.

That said, I am not completely dissatisfied, but I hoped for a better look particularly in the hard parts and leather suit

I mentioned his mouth grill.
The famous lines of his famous triangular mouth sit at an angle not simply vertically upright like a picket fence...almost every vader made for adults depicts this and is a major reason he looks the way he does...45 degrees is half way from vertical to horizontal and is hardly a minor detail when it comes to a hundred plus dollar figure...that's just ignoring obvious details for a sculptor of obvious skill and observation

I can't see the "45 degree" thing.

But, there seem to be two different Sideshow grills shown. One with lines either side of the 'nose':

and another with a line going up to the center of the 'nose':

Or it could just be an optical illusion. :dunno

I have the 1:1 prop replicas the grill is indeed on an angle an it was right on the Anh version, personally doesn't bother me to much, but it was righ last time :dunno
