Thanks guys!

Looks awesome WG. The helmet looks like it is riding too high. Can you push it down further or is that where it rests?

Yeah, I think I can push it down a tad, I was being careful because of the paintwork -- didn't want it to stick on the paint EC did. But yes, it can sit a little further down. I want to heat the helmet and flare it just a bit so it won't 'stick' the the paint over time.

Looks great! Here's still hoping that SS will cough up Gimli, Merry and Pip... I dont have the time or the skill to do all the modding and customising it takes to make this. :monkey2

I really wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. The LOTR line is pretty much dead at this point. It doesn't even look like they'll release all of the main characters as Premium Format statues, either.

Thanks guys!

Awesome pics! He looks killer. Great job! Yeah, heating the slightly stretching the helmet should work though I ended up dremeling and sanding the interior a bit on mine.

Sorry about the neck stem. I had hoped it would just slip on. It did on mine but then I had whittled the neck post down to a fairly small shaft.
Not sure what you are using to file down the neck stem, but you might be able to do it without removing the clothing. I'd just cover the outfit real good with paper towels, dremel the neck stem on slow speed, blow off the shavings and remove the paper towel covering.

Yup. Not gonna happen. Customs are the only option to complete the Fellowship. :rip

He's looking great Wor-Gar. As you say it just needs the head and helmet to sit a little lower. The paintjob on his head looks so good in that photo, it could be a still from the movie.
The paintjob on my Gimli head is coming along slowly. Haven't come up with the right flesh tone for him yet. Plus I got sidetracked on an Aliens project, converting and dyeing a spare Ripley jacket and pants into a single piece jumpsuit for my Bishop figure.

My first post here, just wanted to say Hey to all, i had seen in this thread a pic of my Gimli, heres a few more and some of the ,mods i did to him, along with one pic of what i did with the DID gimli head.
My gimli is a cut down DML body along with various parts of the DID and Toybiz gimli with a custom cloak.

Looks great Storm. I want to make a Rohirrim soldier but was having trouble with the maile. The ICE man? looks great.

Mine's sitting in my head box unpainted. I might finish it one day if the Amus toys figures turn out good.

Wow, just finished all 150 pages of this thread. It was really cool to see the brainstorming to get the custom recipe down pat. It's also funny to see how cheap the Toy Biz "soft" Gimli figures are now - I just picked one up for $10 shipped and they are all over eBay. I have a line on a DiD Gimli, but won't know until next week if I'm actually going to get it (fingers crossed!)

It's a real shame SS never came out with a Gimli figure. Here's hoping Asmus' upcoming version works.

Once I get my pieces together, I'll try my hand at a custom Gimli using the recipe in this thread.

Any other tips/tricks on a custom Gimli in the 4 years since this thread had its run?

:hi5:

I got by fine with the Toy Biz soft Gimli, SS Lothlorien Hobbit Cloak and the Toy Biz Roto Gimli Axes. He looks good with the rest of the human SS figures but looks a little short next to their hobbits (which are taller than they should be).

Why not just wait for Asmus? Their Witch King sure indicates that they will deliver the goods.
